I forgot to look yesterday when I was out there. They have always ran well. My Formula was much quicker than my TA but I don't know what rear end it has as my TA is a 273. No, for clarity, my TA now has an LS1 engine which is a "tad" quicker now. :-D

But I drove that car as a 301 all through high school and college. All show and no go but never left me stranded.

Sounds like you and your birds go way back, and have had quite the memories. :)

So with electricals on the list of "things to do", and the wiring I'm not too motivated to tackle..."yet", I'm looking into the ignition system, and decided to try and fit an old point dist. into the block, to see how much clearance I'll have against the firewall. And here is one shot, for your viewing pleasure.

Plenty of room, at least in its vicinity. Above it is kinda tight, but will still work. So many will say "why not an HEI?" I know most will have one, but I particularly don't like them. For many reasons, but one is their size. In this tight chassis, the more room the better. And it's not that I favor a point system, (but used them successfully for years), with an MSD box, you remove the points, and install their set-up. I like the idea of multi firing, and know it's been used favorably for decades. The unfortunate problem now-a-days, is their cost. They offer an MSD box, "with" a (a$$hole woke won't let me say the opposite of "advance") box which will set you back $700!!!!! Not for me. even W/O the "delay" box, they're still $500. Long story short, I purchased a brand new "BlocK" distributor system, which includes a dist. with a small black cap, rotor, module, external coil, and wires for way less than $300. Should be here tomorrow. hoping to find a used MSD at the swap meet, (or Ebay) for a better price. As far as a "delay" for ign. under boost conditions, looking for advice with that. Any takers?

So the "Block" point style distributor, (with electronic module, external HEI coil, and plug wires) came in, but other duties came around, and I haven't gotten back out there. At least for under the hood. I did go to a swap meet, and pick up a couple rears for almost nothin. A "good guy" just wanting to make room at home, let me take them, for less than $50. One is a 4th gen 3.23 posi, and the other an 89 7.6 open rear, 2.77s. Gives me a housing to build on, W/O taking my 3.23 gov/bomb drum brake rear apart.

Will detail when more time becomes available.

Reorganized rear parts, (scabbed the posi unit), found a "temporary" hiding spot for these parts, and posted most of it in the classifieds on this site B4 listing them on the wifes cell phone. Rather they go to a member.
Haven't been able to progress on this 84, because of more "project requests" that I'm still in the middle of. On vacation right now, but have other obligations eating into my spare time. Hoping to get back into it, which will entail figuring out the eng. wiring. I sent an Email to Painless, but of course they won't reply.
Parts below for the taking.

Not trying to intentionally ignore my 2 T/A's, but being a "one man" handy man in the family, the other "request" project lists just continue to overtake my own personal projects, never mind the "scheduled" and unscheduled issues that never seem to stabilize when you own a hundred yr old house, work full time, and also need to eat and sleep. We all use-ta listen to our "elders" speaking of how precious time is, but it never has become so apparent, until we're here. :(
(I look fwd to retirement, when I'll have more time. Or is that a fantasy too?)

Hello again Mr. J. I hear ya. I could've started collecting 3 yrs ago, but I'm healthy enuff to keep going a bit further. With the cost of living increases the past 10 yrs, I'll need as big a nest egg as I can gather. Especially if I wanna begin restos...again. (I'm also a fan of eating. It's become an addiction since birth, and think I'll need-ta continue doing it, after retirement.) How bout you Jack. Had any time to look at any of your "family" birds?

My vision of retirement when I was working included a lot of activities centered around relaxation. After I retired, I found those things were just not enough to keep my mind going and I shifted to other things I found more rewarding.

It's good that you've continued a reason to get out of bed in the mornings. My T/As are just that for me. With the anticipation that someday I'll be able to return to it/them.

Testing only. Photobucket has a new format, and I've had problems (again) working thru them. The photo below is of the posi diff that'll replace the "gov-bomb" that is OEM installed, and said to not be too reliable. Hoping that the sensor ring won't be a problem seeing I won't be utilizing it.

What ratio is that? Just curious as now powered by a 301 manual.

It's been a few months since I've been out there Luke, but I'm pretty sure it's a 3.23. I'll have-ta remember where I left off. (there's 2 3rd gen rears I just picked up). I'll have-ta look above to see. Yeah, that's what it is. If you'll remember my 84 T/A has a 3.23 gov. bomb posi, that I've heard are about as reliable as...well, I'm not gunna say right now. But when all is said and done, I want this car to be a 3.73 4 wheel disc car. Just to say it is. With the T-5 O/D, I'm sure the car will be OK at hi-way speeds. My 93 6.2 diesel stakebed 2500 has a 3.73 gear, and a 4L80 E tranny and runs good on the hi-way. Why do you ask? Do you need any 3rd gen parts?

No, I was just curious as both of my 79s were 301. My TA was / is a 2.73 and was horrible my formula is something else that I never checked but was smooth much better. I bet with 3.73 a 301 turbo would be fairly decent.

I was able to do something with the T/A today. That involved pulling it out of the garage, to make room for maintenance to the wife's car.
Sorry, wish it were better news. Been a flat out year of unexpected projects, which is similar to a never ending conveyer belt. I might've said this before, but I do see light at the end of the tunnel. At least my roof is done, which was a biggie to knock off the list. Haven't seen any interest in the 3rd gen rear parts I picked up, so they are taken up much needed space. I'll need-ta get serious about selling them.

The eng. shot above is nothing new, and yes, is still filthy.  Me and the wife are looking for a replacement driver, (for her) Her Sonata is getting problematic, and we're looking at a low mileage 2010 Buick regal, (60K) from a friend. We'll se how it looks tomorrow.

I know all about that conveyor belt. This year I had to do an unexpected mini bathroom remodel.

Our 2013 Accord went out like that and we had to replace it. A problem with the ABS caused every light on the dash to come on!
