Legendary Door Panels
« on: May 14, 2025, 06:58:46 AM »
I am probably going to pull the trigger on these but I am confused by the price difference for the only that doesn't include the "metal" parts.  Are they just talking about the weather strip and the part around the door lock?

I made this mistake.  They are talking about the plastic curved part at the top of the panels. They make them from metal in their complete panel and just lose fabric you have to glue to your plastic part for the unfinished panels. The problem is, I bet your plastic part (under the glued fabric) is all broken.

They wouldn't sell me the metal part after I found this out so I had to repair my plastic parts with heat and fiberglass and resin.

The extra money is probably worth the headache and potential damage you may inflict on the new panel.

It's been several years since I looked at getting new door panels for the '81 T/A.  I bought PUI panels and when they arrived they were damaged so I sent them back.  I did notice that
the map pocket was not pleated.  That area was simply not stitched, and they called it a "pocket".  Called Legendary they did the same thing. So I did what Form TA did and repaired
the plastic.  The mylar bead was a bit more difficult to repair.  Looks okay from a distance.

Well I just pulled the trigger on a new set of the deluxe door panels for my car.  It's really the last big piece that needs replaced in the interior.

Legendary are worth the money in my opinion. They should have the interior sweeps in place. Also like mentioned above, get the completed one with the top moulding in place.

Post a pic when you get them. I'm sure everyone would like to see how they look. I'm gonna have to get door panels for our 77 TA when we do it, so ogling some pics and hearing your impression would be great. I've bought plenty of Legendary's stuff in the past and have high confidence in them. The wait time is just nuts anymore though!

That is a lot quicker delivery time than last time I checked, but that was right after Covid. Looking forward to seeing them, and thanks to @FormTA and @Roadking77 for the heads up on which version to order.  :)

Doesn't appear to be any.  Yes thats the Mylar.  Probably overkill on the strip but it speaks alot to the quality

I hope the lead time for the tenth anniversary stuff is a lot shorter now. I started looking for a set right around covid. I checked online ordering with all of the part places and could not find a pair in stock. I called legendary and their wait time was about 8 months. ( Little did I know that it didnt make a diff as 5 years later I still had not installed them). I started calling and asking in person and NPD did a search and found ONE pair at one of their warehouses. I ordered them on the spot and had them on my door step within a week. Boy was I happy I found a pair :-D :-D :-D
Fast (or slow) forward to April 30! I put them in my upstairs bedroom when I got them 5 yrs ago for safe keeping. They did survive the fire by were hit with water. They are not too bad, but not "show" quality now  I listed them in our damaged property of which we are still waiting on a settlement. Once I see they have been covered I will order a new set.

Mine were made to order, it doesn't look like they are stocking them.  It took a month or so to go into production and I received them a week later.

FINALLY Getting these installed only to realize I can’t find the door lock rods. So I have new ones ordered. It’s very unnerving cutting holes in new panels, not sure why that couldn’t be done when they are made. Overall though I am very impressed with the quality and fit.

Velcro sounds like a good option, easy removal if you have to get back in the door for work. Probably less risk of damage to the panel.

I placed an order for a set of the optional fully assembled panels in black [with the chrome piping] om March 31st. I was informed they will be delivered sometime in June. You would think they would have the at least the black panels in stock. SO, I am waiting.

I know they are made to order but did not know it takes 3 months which in my opinion is a long lead time to build a door panel. Probably they are understaffed on purpose.

Mine took 9 months to receive.  It was just after the DEMPANIC and, of course, orders were backed up.  Some orders didn't get shipped for over a year.  Some customers waited.....others tried elsewhere.

Perhaps you should try that stupidity with hospital workers who worked Covid.

Most other countries took it very seriously.

no, just fed up with this idiocy.

Some of us remember the overflowing morgues, refrigerater trucks and mass graves.

Some of us read a lot of history and realize we got off easy with this one - next one, especially after the gutting of the CDC, we may not be lucky.

Ya, those panels look and feel like original or better.  I just received the OER center console from classic industries. For $400 I believe they really could have done better. Those door panels are almost impossible to tell they are repop items. This console is just (in my opinion) flimsy plastic. No vinyl, kinda thin and extremely cheap feeling. Pretty disappointed with it. It will fill the void and look the part but nothing like the original.

Anyway, again those look great! Bet you're happy with how that turned out even taking so long.
