Infinity makes a low profile 6.5 inch Reference model speaker that fit my pick panels but I had to replace the grills as my parking brake hit them - with a low profile grill set on Amazon from a brand named DS18. It’s a lot cheaper than the Morel option (looked at those as well due to the same issue).
I went kind of crazy with my stereo system as I’m a 1990s stereo nerd - and the Trans Am is so much easier to upgrade than a modern car. That being said the cost of the speakers wasn’t that bad.
Here’s my overall setup
Kenwood KDC-X305 Stereo (an amazing stereo for less than $200).
- Infinity Reference 407F (two 4 inch speakers in the center of the dash).
- Infinity reference 607CF kick panel 6.5”)
- Infinity Reference 375TX tweeter - drilled a hole in the kick panel and added these on top of the 6.5”s. Surprisingly these sound good in this location.
- Infinity reference 697MF 6x9s on the rear deck.
- Kicker 12 inch down firing sub in the trunk 48TRPT122
- MTX Thunder 1000.1 sub amp
- JBL DSP4086 8 channel amplifier to power the non sub speakers and tune the whole system. I tuned it the best I can myself and it sounds great to me. I imagine a shop could tune it better but I’m happy with it. Note that this is my warranty replacement one as the first one overheated and caused my rear 6x9s to start smoking. I mounted the amp with a bit of space underneath it to keep it a little cooler. So far so good though it does get hotter than the MTX amp.
I have more pics of these items in my resto thread if you’re interested.
Nice! My set up is
- Dash - Kicker DSC350 3.5"
- Rear Deck - Cerwin Vega XED 6x9
- JVC KD-X380BTS
- Kick Panel - Rockford Fosgate Prime R-165S 6.5" mid and Tweeter
So maybe I'll just add a better amp, a DSP, and a powered sub to the mix and call it good for now
