Neutral safety switch bypass

Is anybody familiar on how to bypass the neutral safety switch I am in the process of wiring my ls 6.0 and it has gone from a auto to a Manuel t56 magnum How do I bypass the switch so that I am able to make it work or turn it off completely with the new transmision

As long as the backdrive linkage is disconnected, which it would be with a trans swap, you can technically leave it alone. My 77 is factory auto to 4 speed swapped. I left the neutral safety alone and leave the column in the “park” position and there are no issues. Granted, the car will start with it in gear and the clutch out which some may not like.

You could also unplug the wire from the switch and put a jumper between both terminals to completely eliminate the switch.

And lastly, you could hook up the wires to a clutch safety switch like factory 4 speeds had to prevent the car from starting with the clutch out.

Likely, yes. You could probably still use a jumper or use it for clutch safety. Don’t forget you’ll lose reverse light function too just fyi but there are ways to remedy that

Ok I will just jump them any chance you know the colors of the wire that need to be jumped?

My 77 is purple and purple with a white stripe. If your old column is still in, they’ll be plugged into the neutral safety switch mounted low on the column near the pedals. It can kind of be seen here on Firebirdparts’ website.

Get yourself a service manual for whatever year it is. You'll need it several times during an engine swap, rather than guessing or asking those who do have one.

From a friend who just did this: You can get rid of the back drive rod and attach an external NSS, like from Flaming River.  Reverse lights and neutral safety switch are operational.  That's if you did a steering column swap. 

    ***Also, you can get a kit from Firebird Central (DAS-2076) to add to the floor shifter.  That's what I am going to do on my '69.
