Stock Shaker Fitment
« on: September 16, 2026, 09:50:21 AM »
Howdy, I have a strange issue that might be in my head. How should the stock shaker fit? I swear mine seems to be sitting low and close to the hood (towards rear of car). and can hit the hood if not perfectly centered. I swear it is supposed to be higher and used to be, only thing that I can think of that could of changed that is solid body bushings. I don't see any way of the height changing from the engine to the shaker, its all a set measurement. Thanks.

Or perhaps the aircleaner base has bent and rebent downwards. Not unheard of to lean on snorkel and bend it down around carb on one side. Lifting the snorkel up again to level out doesn't always lift back to where it started, it can actually pull the other side down, kinda pivoting at the carb. By time it's straight and level, the entire until is sitting a faction lower around the pressed bowl shape.

Mine also sits a bit lower after the solid body bushings

hmm maybe that is the case then, It gets to nearly a 1/4 inch of clearance with the hood slightly up...

What do you suggest, if that is the case, I haven't checked how mine looks but I never really leaned on it since I have noticed it being lower.

Not sure how the 77s were but my completely original 1979 (when I owned it early on) always had a really low sitting hood scoop. This may have been because my car was a 301 car back then. (Now LS swapped)
79 Trans am low buck LS swapped
79 Formula 301 (Work in progress)
67 RS Camaro (waiting it's turn)
69 Dodge charger on late model charger chassis
49 Ford F1 on a 2003 Chevy ZR2 Chassis (current project)
Names, Luke. If I hear anyone telling me they're my father....

You said it doesn't seal level with hood, worth a look regardless of reason then. That's one way to easily adjust.

Regardless of shaker height, the seal should be high enough to contact and seal hood without being crushed. Shaker still shakes.

Was that only as a result of body mount swap?

Saw an old video and it is very obvious shaker position has changed. I can only imagine it would be the body mounts. Although potentially the new TKX and mount angle the engine differently as well?

Different body mounts, engine mounts, trans mount, can all lift or sag a setup compared to hood. Likewise engine swap, intake, carb, air cleaner base swaps.
Air cleaner base easy to tweak an angle, not so much to lift or drop any great distance.
Pointless even mentioning a fix without stating the reason for it. Looking is a good start.
