HA, I just answered this in your post about new windows before I read down. Look there, but the answer is YES. Replace the hardware. This stuff looks pretty good but for what its worth I  got mine from AMES. Also, there is a special tool to remove those pieces. I think it may cost $20 or so and yes, AMES has it in their catalogue. I loaned mine out a couple of times to members on here, one time I needed and it was out so I made one out of a socket. I will dig it out in the shop tomorrow and post pics.

If you go to 'My Tenth Anniv Resto' in the restoration thread, page 20, there are some pics of my glass installation.

Thank you very much roadking77. When you replaced the hardware were any of them bad [I presume the plastic roller perhaps was bad?]

Sorry, late to the party. I am not sure anything was really all that bad, the nylon rollers were in my opinion beyond their usefulness. My thinking was/is since I was in there taking things apart may as well put back new, it might last another 30 years. The gunk build up was probably the worst part. Just cleaning/degreasing and new grease made a big diff.

Looking forward to replacing the glass I got from Auto City. I will certainly clean up the guides, tracks etc. I hear there is a part that is under tension and one must exercise caution when removing it lest it injures the person.

Driver's side window hardware all the checked out to be good. Rollers are intact. Cleaned them up and applied machine oil for smooth operation. Tracks were cleaned up well and regreased with Valvoline GP grease. Felt was replaced anywhere present in the system. Next, install the new glass.

I also sprayed silicone grease on the power window motor gear and scissor system. Window operates like factory new now. Night and day difference now that 45 years of no service is erased.

For many tired originals, they be improved by simply degreasing the door hinges of old rust and gunk, or running a purpose ground cable from motor mount to inside cabin to body.

I don't see the connection to the power window mechanism.

The poor ground is the main cause for slow and burnt out window switches. It can make all the difference for some.

Hmmm. The degreasing of the door hinges? A bad ground like that will wreak havoc with everything electric. It will really have to bad and the car a rust bucket/
