Dash grounds
« on: September 01, 2023, 07:27:00 AM »
Can anyone post pictures of where the ground wires are terminated on the dash?   I have a 75, but I bet they are all close.   Thanks!

You might have to be more specific in what you’re asking.

There are two bolts at the bottom of the dash, right and left corners, that ground the dash to the body.

I am trying to put back together a dash on a 75 Trans Am.   Past owners tore out the dash for reasons beyond my control.   I suspect that the oil pressure gauge was not working due to what I see which resulted in the dash being tore apart.   I found that the circuit board was bad behind the main gauges and that fixed THAT problem.   I have found one ground wire to the left of the steering wheel, and I would love to know the other locations because some lighting isn't working with new bulbs.   I suspect that it is the grounds.   Does that help in being more specific?

Drivers side dash reinforcement

I think this ground is the only one I see so far.   It had an aftermarket radio that was butchered and I thought I had found another ground.   It didn't help.

This one is interesting.   I need to look more into this.   Thank you.

Is that where the lower channel/dash frame mount onto the ledges of body?  I can't help, mine isn't original.

I think so.   I also have seen a few videos talking about "10 mm" bolts that go here.   I have a bag of loose bolts and screws and don't see what I am looking for.   I suspect it was actually 3/8" since I don't believe metric was a thing back then.

There are some good videos on YouTube as well.

Each video gives me a little more, but not exactly what I am looking for.   I did find out that the dash screws at the top wasn't in.   The one on the far left doesn't line up nor does the far right under the glove box.   The bottom of the dash sticks out about 1/2".   I also just got shocked when I touched the metal sticking out of the windshield washer switch.   Eeeesh.

There are several locations on these vehicles where metric fasteners are used, often safety features. The dash for example, the dusty blue flange nuts holding the steering column to the bracing are metric, where you lower it to access dash or gauges. Another is the bolts holding the seatbelt roof retractors.
