Factory Delco radios

Does anyone know if Delco radios in the 70's were interchangeable between various models if the face is the same size? Are Firebird or Camaro units model specific as far as the dimensions go or could you use one from say an Olds , Buick or Cadillac? There's still a few of them laying around as opposed to Firebird parts which are getting scarce.

I swapped some AM 's to AM/FM's from various GM cars back in the 70's and don't recall any issues. 60's era are a different story.

I’m not 100% positive but I’m thinking you’d have better luck with 78-81s as I believe they shared radios with other models. 70-77 firebirds had their own radio not shared with any other Pontiac nor the Camaros of the same years. That said, would another fit? Maybe but I kind of think they wouldn’t. Sorry I don’t have a more definitive answer

Ok thanks. mine is a 77 with the smaller cutout. The car was ordered with a radio install pkg only, so it must've had an aftermarket unit right from the get go.Thanks for all the advice.
