A buddy of mine sent me this article. If nothing else, it’s a good looking car

I saw that yesterday.  Wonder what it will bring at the auction?

Beautiful car. Prices are starting to get crazy on second gens. I bet this one will easily hit $125k.
My guess $125k-$175k

I love the originality but the low miles make it a static museum piece. I suppose if I had the money and space for a couple of dozen cars having something like this would be ok but I like to drive more than look. For sitting in a museum a restored shiny car will look the same setting next to this one.

I hear you but what good is any car (or anything) if it will just sit and collect dust?

In the pictures this car is absolutely pristine.  For a reference as to how these cars looked as delivered it’s without peer.  However as a machine, if it was not properly “pickled”, id think it needs a complete tear down and rebuild before anyone even thinks about spinning anything.  Doing so will likely kill any value of keeping it for so long.

Agree with 76455. As a trans am its just about worthless. As a piece of art, well thats another story.

Interesting the the bumper looks wrinkled on driver side. Just goes to show it wasn't always the bumper jack that caused these wrinkles.

Are you referring to the cover just below the centre of the headlights? I noticed that also. After all of the work I did on mine to try and get things right it still had that same hump in it. I dont feel so bad about now.

That car had been at TA Specialties here in Miami for nearly two years listed for $195000 before it got sold. In today's absurd market, it may bring the same. A Nocturne blue hardtop W72 with similar miles went for $118k at Mecum; imagine what a t-topped SE will bring.

Wonder if that was a snowflake wheel thing or timing? Will have to look into that further. I am almost certain the TATA had hex caps. Of course they had turbine wheels and came out mid year.

Never knew it was a mystery. Every 79 WS6 should have the round stainless caps except the TATA which was the first wheel to utilize the Hex style caps. 8" snows and Turbo wheels 80-81 received the Hex caps.

I wasn't aware that it was ever a question.  The caps are coded on the build sheet, so you can see from that they didn't switch to hex caps in 1979.  But back in the day, you never saw a 79 with plastic caps.  The TATA's all have them, and I guess they were looking for unique features to put on the car.  You just knew, back then, they had a unique center cap.
