GM-Style 78+ radio
« on: April 06, 2025, 05:25:33 AM »
I'm not sure if this is new or not, but I haven't noticed this GM-style front before, the radio itself is likely same behind the face for years. This is local Aus site, haven't had chance to look further so bookmarking it with post. Even has Delco on it, using new repro radio parts available perhaps. They don't like photos behind the faces, bezels are wrong shape, not sure if copied from something else similar.

Not US Dollars, still stupidly expensive. Probably double what it costs direct.

Those look really nice. I dont like the retro sound ones that have the car make painted across the face. Did anyone else notice that the display models have the dash trim mounted upside down , then again maybe from where Ben is looking at it its right side up :???:

Lol I did notice the bezel actually. I suppose if they perform well enough it may be worth it. The 70-77 version available by another company is allegedly garbage as far as quality and function but I suspect the retrosound is probably better.

I have a buddy that sent the radio from his 75 to be rebuilt with modern internals. I think it costs around $400? He is very happy with it.

I am a purist when it comes to originality. I have the original and fully functional Delco 2700 unit in place. I have a JBL Bluetooth speaker on a Velcro pad on the rear package tray, neatly installed, that plays music through an Apple ipod, flawlessly and with great sound.

I enjoy originality also. And although I’ve seen there are a few individuals that offer to add Bluetooth, the cost is pretty hefty especially if you’re doing such a thing on the 70-77 radios. I think I have a post here still otherwise it was pre crash and is gone but what I did is I installed a small Bluetooth enabled amp under my center console. I installed a factory 70-77 red dot stereo and my console mounted 8 track player. As most know those use common ground speakers and require 8-10 ohm speakers. And only two at that. With the amp, both original devices function as they did but feed into the amp. I split the signal from each speaker going into the amp and the amp outputs two left and two right channels so I can power 2 modern 4 ohm rear 6x9s and a 4 ohm “dual coil” front speaker with left and right input/output.

It’s not a perfect setup as far as sound quality since I’m limited by the radio and 8 track outputs but suits my needs and the Bluetooth output can be adjusted by an EQ on my phone. There’s a wired remote I hid in the ashtray that is used to turn Bluetooth on and subsequently change Bluetooth volumn, tracks play and pause.
