Need to replace mine but want a new or a well rebuilt one. Who have people used other than Auto Zone or Advance auto?

Cardone has good rebuild. If you aren't looking to keep it original you can upgrade your steering box to a 3rd gen camaro box which can give you a better ratio. I did that last year and I don't regret it. The advantage of 1980-81 cars is they have metric thread and makes the swap a bolt-in.
CARDONE 276530 is the stock part for the 80-81
CARDONE 276550 is the tighter version if I recall. What they call FE3

Why do you need to replace yours out of curiosity? Is it leaking?

Had my original rebuilt, was leaking at the pitman arm. Pressure tested etc. by builder.

its sloppy feeling. tried to tighten it up but due to its age and such, I just want a new one

I am not concerned about "stock" in this case since it's not stock already. Did you get the rebuilt one for the 3rd gen box?

Keep us posted if you find one and how it works out. Mine was leaking and what I felt as sloppy. I picked one up from rock auto and not only did I have issues with it at low rpm it was hardly, if at all, any tighter than my old one. I rebuilt my old one to stop the leaks and reinstalled it. I read around an inch of wheel movement back and forth is normal I think. Mine is about like that. I feel like I was probably comparing the feel to modern cars. That’s just me though. You may have better luck with something like that Lares mentioned above

The cardone 276550 is a 12.7:1 fixed ratio. I believe the stock is 14:1 variable ratio (Possibly someone can chime in)
Make sure you can save the end fitting. In my case I was not able to

are you happy with your ratio? send it out and have it built the way you want it. i know steer and gear in ohio builds a nice one, i sent mine to straight line in san jose and told them how i wanted it to drive and they killed it. nice and tight steering with just the right amount of assist. im a big ban of building a box the way you want i have had an off the shelf reman and they are meh at best.

Wow, I wish I’d heard of them when I wanted a new box. I’m just 2 hours north of them and if I remember right nprogress is somewhere here in Ohio too.

I have used the Cardone 12:1 3rd Gen “IROC” box twice.
The first was perfect love the tighter ratio.
The second one I got was sloppy and driving me nuts. Trying to decide what to do next.

Is the supply of 600 Series boxes dried up?

we have 670 boxes as well they start at $799.00, the supply of Delfi casted cases has probably dried up, GM sold Delfi to Borg Warner 2 years ago and that started a shortage of the 600 series cases again but we've been able to get some, just got 3 of them last week.
