Hi - I recently bought new snowflake wheels with the 5 1/8" back spacing. I believe they are rubbing the sway bars quite a bit more than my older version which had less backspacing. I don't see any bumpers to prevent the rubber from hitting the bar either. Any suggestions? Would a small spacer help?
I also had heard of a steering stop being located on the lower control arm but I don't see one. All I see is the triangle shaped bump stop for the frame.

Yeah I believe it's rubbing at or near full lock. Any suggestions on what adjustable stop to buy and where to install/add one? Thanks!

Hey Jonathon - nope, this is the PTFB "high clearance" sway bar.
Not sure if it matters but I’m running PTFB GT springs, C5 spindles, C7 hubs, but with original control arms still.

I simply popped the control arm stops off, added a spacer, or a set of washers, replace with bolts.
Just to make sure I’m clear. You’re saying to just raise the height of the triangle stop I circled below with some washers? Maybe I’m missing something but I can’t see any part close to hitting that bump stop. Thanks!

Ahh ok that’s what I assumed the triangle stop was for. Didn’t realize there were stops on the outside of the arms. Thanks again.

I had the same problem. I drilled and taped for a small bolt on the apex of the stop. Then added a few washers as needed to get the clearance I needed and used Loctite.

I wasn't really looking at this earlier, but since this is related to the control arms, do you guys think replacing my stock control arms is worth it on a street car? The bushings and ball joints on both the upper/lower control arms were replaced about 8 years & 5000 miles ago. The control arms are basically the last stock item remaining from my suspension.

I have this same rub running OER snowflakes 17x9 with the 5 1/8" backspacing and 255/50r17 tires with an otherwise stock suspension. So, thanks for bringing it up! And, thanks even more for the solution!
This sounds terrible now that I say it out loud, but I just figured "Try not to turn at full lock and it wont be a problem". I've never felt the rub in the wheel, just see the marks.
How big a deal is something like this?

TATurbo I’m with you. This is not the world’s most important issue to resolve😀.
I do live on a cul de sac where I can’t make it without a 3 point turn. So I think I notice this more than most. If there’s a simple solution to a minor problem I’m happy to apply it though.

That I don't remember. However I did use a fine thread because of the thickness of the material. I will look in the parts bin and see if there is a extra bolt or two. They rarely come in a pack of two. I will post something late afternoon. Wasn't home yesterday. I would have gotten back to you sooner. Sorry.

I had to do some tests using my 17x9 Snowflake rims with 255/45 tyres so here is a couple of photos showing the modified original steering bumps. The original rivets were ground off and a spacer plate installed with bolts that allow clearance with sway bar at full lock. The plate spacer thickness can be adjusted or removed as required. You also need to check full lock with wheels on and off the ground.
Read previous statements, OP has cpp spindles NOT stock, I also posted about those spindles not having steering stops.
OP also has aftermarket control arms.

Actually I have OEM arms still, but as Dave stated I have CPP spindles without stops. For now I’ve decided to stick with using my brain to stop turning the wheel😀
