Title: Hazard flasher button won’t stay on
Post by: twov8sandat4 on October 03, 2021, 05:23:06 PM
Hi everyone,

My saga to get my car ready for inspection continues. I figured I would make a new thread as this is not part of the harness.

The hazard button on the steering column will not stay depressed.  If I keep my finger on it while depressed, the flasher works. However as soon as I let my finger off, the button pops out and the flasher stops. I have been searching for a couple of days but can’t find anything. Has anyone had this issue?

The inspection station will not pass the car unless this is taken care of.  This is the last item I need to address to get the sticker.

Anyone with any insight into what to look for, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

I don't know how you'd ever fix that really.  It's combined with the turn signal switch, and so you might have to replace the turn signal switch.  You could probably jury rig something that would work once, to get it inspected.  Like stick some tape or chewing gum just in the right spot.

Last winter I rebuilt my column. I replaced all of that stuff. Like FBparts, Im not sure without digging into it what would cause it to stick or not stick as the case may be. It may be in the 'button' itself. They are pretty cheap and a phillips screw driver will replace it in about 2 minutes. No need to dig in the column for that. May be worth a try.

Thanks guys.  I will replace the button, and try rigging something just to get past inspection.

I will have to take the column apart over the winter and see what is going on.

A large hose clamp will get you thru inspection. You could put black shrink wrap around it to disguise it, if you had to.
