Title: AC Delco Freedom II Battery
Post by: MO 1979 TA on September 20, 2021, 05:58:28 PM
Hi - I picked up a 79 TA with low miles and mostly all original. It still has the AC Delco Freedom II battery which I removed. I have not had a chance to add fluid and see if it will take a charge yet however. Is it worth messing with for originality or just use it for a display? Thanks!

That looks ancient, clean it up and use it for display.

You can purchase battery toppers that mimic the look.

There is no reason to keep it for originality as a '79 came with a "Freedom" battery, not a "Freedom II". It is, however, something you don't see anymore. It could be cool to clean up and set on a shelf in the garage for display.

Battery toppers - I don't think I have seen them and will definitely look into those...

Thanks all. I agree it looks like a great display piece more than anything else.

If your '79 has the UA1 heavy duty battery option, this is the one you need. (UA1 on the window sticker, 402 in box #47 on the build sheet.) Ames has it on their website, but it's not in the paper catalog I have in my desk.

Was the original Freedom battery a side-terminal only as per pics above?

No. It was also available in a top post configuration.
