Title: Engine mount brackets
Post by: RAS on June 07, 2021, 06:08:44 PM
Question on the different engine block brackets.
I am restoring a 1977 Trans Am and the engine going into it is a 1971 400 block.
I want to maintain the correct engine height for the 77. I believe that the 71 had a different block bracket then the 77?
The block has all 5 mounting holes so I assume I am good to use the bracket style that came in the 77 s as me clam shells on the subframe?

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

You are good.  The 71 used a different motor mount and the rubber was mounted on engine, so the motor mount was kind of upside down. But in any case, the intended engine height was the same, and the later Firebird style will fit.

It's not a bolt in. You will have to drill holes into the 71 frame to use the later style mounts
