Title: Old Pontiac Dealers
Post by: roadking77 on April 05, 2021, 08:13:56 AM
I searched this dealer out for a buddy of mine whose car was purchased there new. The dealer was Cooper Pontiac in Chestertown MD, later became Ramsey. Its now a body shop.

Ironically parked in the 'to be worked on lot' was this really nice firebird.

I would love to see pics of other dealerships as they are today or even period pics. There are several in my area I can put up. I have been trying for years to find something from the dealer where my 77 came from with no luck.
Wayne Strand Pontiac in Corpus Christi TX.

Around my area they were all converted to garages or the ones that were in the city tourn down to build housing. But I would love to see pictures of the old dealerships, I remember someone posting one with many 77 or 78 birds (maybe it was Mr Bandit)

My 79 TransAm was delivered to Woody Pontiac in Hamtramck Michigan. Apparently it was a popular dealership in that area.

Teefy Pontiac, Jenkintown Pa.  My 79 was delivered end of March of 79.  The current building has been modified. The left side was the show room and the right side was the service garage.

When my wife and I bought our 78 Formula, we found it a little over an hour away in Coshocton, Ohio at a Ford dealership.  We brought it home on the day of the big northcoast blackout (we had power when we got home).  The car came with original window sticker.  It was originally sold at Willis Pontiac in North Canton, Ohio.  We live in Akron, Ohio, so the car never really left the area.  Tried to follow up with the dealership, but they didn't have anything.  Then it was torn down in 2010.  Always thought it was interesting that it has been a local car all its life.  Here is a news article with pictures showing some demolision.

I did the background on all the dealers my T/A's came from.

My Fire Am came from Chris Bates Pontiac in Beeville, Texas, but I can find zero information on that place, must have gone out of business decades ago.

My Y84 was sold new at Ville-Marie Pontiac Buick, here is an advertisement from when the car woulda been new on the dealership floor. I even spoke to the dealership owner's wife, as he recently passed away. Largest French Pontiac dealer with a massive reputation, the owner was a huge GM dealer.

My 1987 GTA got sold at a dealership called Davis Pontiac Inc that looks like it was around recently, and now is the subject of some local council controversy, looks like it had a big front of house:

My 78 T/A was sold new at Mel Pontiac in Warwick, NY.  This is the only photo of the dealership the Warwick Library was able to find for me.  The dealership eventually became Country Chevrolet/Oldsmobile (which still existed when I made a pilgrimage to Warwick around 2006 or so).

The Bernie and Phils on Rt1 was a Pontiac dealer back in the day.

My 70 that I'm building now came from Pontiac Village 860 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. It's never left the state.
