Pretty sure it has the fast ratio box at 14:1
It’s acting like it is hydro locked. It gives a 1/4 of 1 turn and then becomes almost impossibly resistant and makes that scratching sound they make when they are at the end of a lock to lock and have gone too far.
When I jack the car up. It turns freely.
It feels like there is air in it…….a lot of air.
It I bled the system with the car jacked up and turned it left to right many times.
I’m seeing no air bubbles.
I left it at a mechanic for a while to have the motor replaced. He got the motor in and running and then passed away.
When I got there. The hood of the car was off and the steering box had no lines on it. It could have been exposed to water. And I think it got water in it.
When I replaced All the fluid. There was a milky look to it. So I kept running it through with power steering fluid until it was gone.
What are my options here?
Replace the whole box?
Rebuild the box?
Take the box off and turn it upside down?
Take the box apart and inspect it? Which I’ve never done?
Send the box out to have it rebuilt?
Who’s a good place that rebuilds for a decent price. The car is not a show piece. It’s a driver and not numbers matching.
I will add that before this. The steering box was slightly worn out. It had some play in it but I never had a problem. All the play was in the box because I have a jeep shaft upgrade and new tie rods and such
I just want some other peoples thoughts in the situation.
I can send video of what it’s doing through text or however.
