Title: T Top & Door Seals from Metro
Post by: d_hache on April 08, 2022, 11:39:10 PM
I found the TTop and door weather stripping on Amazon for my 1980 Trans Am.
The company is Metro, has anyone used their products before?
Are they any good?

I haven't tried Metro brand. But I had great results with Steeleproducts brand for my door seals. I literally threw away new OER brand door seals, they were not even close to original fit.

I have a set of Metro seals on my '81 TA and I'm not happy with them.  The set I have was purchased a while ago (2016).  The problem with the set I have installed is that there is a pretty poorly finished seam at a critical point at the curve near forward edge of the window.  The uneven finish at that seam catches water running down the channel and eventually starts dripping inside.  Even though the window is set pretty tight against the seal there.
I don't know if I just got a bum set, or if they changed the design at some point.  So you're experience may vary. But, I'll be looking for replacements at some point.  Luckily my car doesn't spend much time out in the weather, and the problem isn't bad enough to be an issue when doing things like washing the car.
Good luck!

I found a nos set for the roof but used Steele for the trim on the t top itself. The steele product was high quality. ( I still think its funny that a company that sells rubber is named Steele  ,ha, sorry for my 12 year old humor)

I used Metro seals for my Hurst tops mainly because they had them. Quality was good,  I think you guys with the Fisher/ GM tops have a lot more options in finding seals and parts.

The feedback on different brands can vary especially if the doors are not adjusted correctly. Years ago there were only 2 alternatives and they were both ok. The T-tops were always a drama regardless of brand, so they matched the originals well! I have Metro on the car, another set of Metro put aside from 10 yrs ago, a few random NOS GM, when and if the time comes, I'll just use whatever combination works and if any dramas, try something else.
