And while in the same area, anyone ever seen this locking retainer used over the switch? They were usually for plastic threaded parts, think they changed over from metal to plastic switches around 77/78. But I've never seen another or reference to it, perhaps dropped as fast as it was introduced.
They would basically be a single-use item, as I've nearly destroyed it twice trying to remove and getting it mangled.

Not that my car is original by any means but I looked at mine yesterday just out of curiosity to see if that retainer was still there and it doesn’t appear to be

Thanks Brian. The retainer wasn't originally on mine, but did come on a spare valve I bought in a box of used Firebird parts. But they were still fairly standard GM parts and I've not found them for any other model lines either.

After rereading your post, I’ll have to look now and see if my switch is metal or plastic too. Though if the retainer is gone the switch may have been swapped. I’ll still look for the heck of it though.
