Long time ago, I've started a post to see the meaning behind user names. Not sure if it's fun anymore especially with so many that use their real name (me included) but post up and let us know the meaning behind your user name.

Mumbles is my CB handle.
Citizens Band Radios got to be popular among a few friends when I was in high school. (This would have been the mid-90s.) About the same time I was awarded a part in the school play. It was called "Night of the Living Beauty Pageant" and my character's name was "Mumbles". Once I got my very own Uniden CB Radio installed in my parent's '79 Chevy Cheyenne, I had to pick cool code name and that's what I went with.
When I started joining a few forums it seemed like a simple decision to carry over this moniker as my online callout. :)

Happy belated birthday Jonathan!
-
Back in 09 my Dad and I bought a 72 bird that was an ambitious project to say the least. At the time I couldn't think of a user name, so that's what I came up with.
Funny enough, we sold that car after a few months of ownership to a somewhat local guy. I haven't owned another 72 since, but have/had 70s, 71s, and 73s. lol
-
Jon,
Also wishing you a belated happy birthday!

Well, I live in Kentucky, and used to have a beard and long hair- especially long around Colorado camping trip time. Someone said I looked like a Yeti in the mountains, and it stuck. BTW- this picture was taken in 2004... long before Duck Dynasty was thought of. So before it gets mentioned (again)- I did not copy Willie Robertson. DD started in 2012. If anything- he copied me
I'm in the center, in case anyone had any doubt.

Wow, you look scary, even from here!
-
Here is the reason behind my screen name.
Been racing this one since the mid- 90s in some form or another.
T&T / Street Class / Pro Eliminator.
It is the most favorite thing I have.

Here is a video taken by my cousin yesterday.
He did take it holding my phone in the wide format mode, but please excuse the segment where the turf is featured.
This was a make-up / solo pass due to having a problem with the water pump in the qualifying time shot.
I knocked the wire for the water pump switch out of the fuse panel messing with troubleshooting a problem with the tail lights which you need running at night, so I had to miss taking a pass with everyone else.
The car ran a 11.237 on a 11.23 dial but I fouled due to the quick tree you sometimes get when you solo.
A routine pass may have netted some qualifying points, but alas.
You will have to click on the link.

The track is Island Dragway in Great Meadows, NJ.
Thanks

Used to play military flight sims back in the early days, Raven was my callsign and it stuck.

One day I was messing with ideas to put on a vanity plate for the 73.
Had ideas like
NASTY 73
NAS T 73
Never did get a special plate for the car but when it came time to join forums like this one, I figured why not try one of the ideas.
Since I’m Canadian it’s not a T/A it’s s a T/EH.
I use to share my name and family details in my profile, but a bunch of people in my company have lost their jobs from a post or video they made in social media. So all you get from me anymore is I live in Alberta Canada.
-
I bought my 73 TA new in 73 and have moved it all around the country. It was my honeymoon car, we took it to Daytona Beach.
I also am a gun collector using the same handle. When my buddies ask me what the TA stands for, they always get a kick
out of that. When I bought it, I was really wanting the SD option, got talked out of it by the salesman and my father. I've been
collecting SD stuff all these years to finally clone the car with an SD engine, it's in the shop now.
In the last decade or so, so many really good Pontiac engine parts have become available, it didn't make since to do a correct resto. on it since
it's a non numbers car, it has given me the opportunity to use modern parts and save the real stuff for the pureist.
I am still going to use the correct 73 cast SD iron block and heads to keep the SD theme intact. I'm hoping it will become a legacy car passed down to my youngest
son, who also has my 3 grandsons. They call it a race car :-)
I also own a numbers 74 SD car as well that I plan on getting back on the road soon as well.
-
This was my vanity plate although not to smartest if I got pulled over iTllFLY.

TAC was the first forum, social media, etc. that I ventured into. When I registered and was asked for a user name I was caught by surprise, I had no idea what a user name was. I thought it was mandatory to use something other than your real name so I had to come up with something on the fly, and something I presumably would not forget. I figured a combination of my 2 passions, my motorcycle is a Roadking, and my car is a 1977 model. Hence the user name. btw, Most of you already know but my real name is Kerry. I also use TAKerry on a couple of other sites.
-
When Ebay was fairly new, I decided to sell some excess firebird parts on ebay. This was in the 1990's. It went so well I changed my ebay username to firebirdparts and that's that.
I was very interested to see RamblerRacer's Spirit. You just never see those anywhere.

My name's Ryan, and in HS people called me ryeguy. Graduated in 2006, and somewhere along the way ryeguy2006 was taken, so I did the logical thing and added an "a" haha. Started off using that name on AIM (AOL Instant Messanger) before I had a cell phone haha.

I'm not very smart, or have an imagination. :(

I was watching a documentary on the SR-71 Blackbird. Well, you can guess the rest.
-
Mine is a bit of a story!
Back in 1999, I was in college, and at that time I started getting into computer gaming. Siting in one of my classes, my professor was explaining something about the converging points (Taking Police Foundations, not sure how it was related) and called it a nexus. This was the first time I heard the word, and used it as my gaming name. Slowly, as time went on, there were more people using "Nexus" so if it is already taken, I will use "Nexus_wfo" which my late cousin suggested. Luckily for most of the car sites I'm registered too, I'm the only Nexus

Funny stuff, Jack. On an FB site? Besides, I tried that on another Pontiac forum many years ago, and got laughed right outta there. I can take a hint.

The sneakers are for the drive home. They would be lucky to last a whole day up on those rocky slopes. But after 9 days of trudging along at 10'300 feet in those heavy, insulated boots- it feels great to put on sneakers for the long 25-hour drive home!

Sorry Joe, no disrespect... funny thing I Google GTO Joe and a song popped up, I won't post it but it has an interesting video.

Based on a character I fabricated for a franchise I was a fan of in my early teen years who had the ability to control nuclear energy, and "envoy" was the name of a custom skin I used on my WinAmp media player (I know it's an actual word, too lol).
The two words just sounded cool, so I combined them for a username when I made a DeviantArt account back in like 2004. As for the lowercase and capital letters; back in the 2000's, "hAxXOr-speak" was a big thing, where whatever you typed out, you mix up the uppercase and lowercase letters or replace entire letters with other characters that resemble the letters. I.E. nUc134r 3nV0Y
It's stuck ever since. It's actually pretty easy to find any forum I'm subscribed to since I've used this same username for everything, lmao.
-
We had a bet at work in the late 90s that I can come up with an email address that was not taken on the first try, and the address had to make sense. I won the bet. At the time I had an 82 5.0 along with my T/A, so that constitutes the TWOV8S part. I also had a 1990 Eagle Talon AWD turbo and that constitutes the AND A T4. So Twov8sandat4.
Only a car nut like me thinks that's logical :P
-
Pontiac -> named after the great Chief Pontiac. Poncho -> nickname for a Pontiac car. Chief Poncho -> Me oldest guy on an early car forum back in the late 90's owning a pontiac.
I kept the name on many forums ever since. May have even used it on some message boards even before then. Amazing how many people don't make the connection. But I guess if you're not into Pontiacs it may not make sense.
-
My initials.
I'm embarrassed to ask this as I always assumed your name was Mac...

Well, I really liked playing club penguin. My first username was Maxtherebelpilot222 since I liked two things at the time, star wars and thunderbirds. Guess which thunderbird was my favourite. They shorted the names, and Maxthepilot didn't fit and Maxtherebel didn't either, it ended up with Maxthe222, and then it became my Xbox gamer tag, and once it's your Xbox GT that's the end of it!

I always wondered about the lower vs. upper case... assumed you only wanted people to read the upper!

I've only changed my XBL tag once in 11 years. It was a tough decision

I was/am a Wasp fan back in the 80's and well, Restless gypsy was a song on their second album that i liked/like. And i didn't think F like a Beast would be appropriate!

I've always been a fan of Wasp as well. Harder Faster or Mean Man would be my picks. I'm really enjoying this thread. Great to hear the stories!

Ford is my name and I'm the 5th out of 5 sons.
@TaJoe, I'm embarrassed because I always read that as Tahoe, like the lake or the SUV. LOL!

What’s a oracle member?
Anyone with a 1000+ posts.

Patch, lifelong nickname due to having denim waistcoat covered with patches, such as Trans AM, Burt Reynolds etc, unfortunately I am old enough to remember when SATB was released, 1400 from one of my motorcycles engine CC.

I was living and working in Serbia when I joined TAC around 2003. I also struggled to come up with a user name. So..."pozar" (pronounced "pozhar") means fire in Serbian. Mixing languages to get "Fire Car." Best I could come up with.
-
Pozar, good to hear from you.

Thanks guys. I know that I have been MIA for a long time, with really no good excuse. Nice to be reconnecting.

I’ve been called Mac by some of my buddies but my real name is Michael Anthony Carbone (MAC) :D :D

What my daughter called crows when she was a toddler (late 90's).
-
First name is Jackson, middle name is Dewain, and some people call me JD. I've mostly been a Mopar guy my whole life, but have had a few Trans Ams along the way. I use JDMopar on both Moparts and For A Bodies Only, and I'm just too old and lazy to try and come up with and remember another one for here! I've been on here for several years, but don't post much. I logged on today, and saw we must have had a revamp, and it looks like we lost a lot of content from the old version of the board. Thought I'd better 'splain it again!
-
I like GM and Chrysler products.
-
Ok I will play, I live in Georgia and of course I have the Trans Am (Bird). The 33 is because my favorite race car driver growing up was Harry Gant, who drove the #33 Skoal Bandit.
I actually own a 78 Trans Am.
-
Harry Grant- you know his #33 team was owned by Hal Needham and Burt Reynolds.

I bought a '70 Esprit and installed TA body parts on it when I was repainting it. I like red cars and it was red from the factory, so I painted it GM Bright Red which is different than the factory red. Pontiac purists would come out of no where at gas stations and what not telling me I'd ruined an early TA that should be painted blue or white. So I'd explain the Esprit story. After a while I decided to just get a vanity plate I could point to. At the time I couldn't get any spaces on the plate so NOTATA was the best I could get. Didn't occur to me how many non car folks would read it as NO TA TA ahahaha. Years later when I moved to FL I just got a normal plate.
When the internet became a thing I used NOTATA initially, then eventually forums and other online sites started allowing screen names that were more than one word so I switched ones I could to NOT A TA and also used it for any new ones. I'm still NOTATA on some sites I joined long ago, photobucket comes to mind.

Interesting story John. Sorry to hear about the bad mouthing of your color choice, instead of praising your body and paint quality. Some times it seems like the world is full of people who nonchalantly throw out insults.

It wasn't so much bad mouthing the color choice as they were disappointed I hadn't painted it a "correct" color thinking it was a real TA. Once I explained then they were usually complimentary about the exterior changes and body/paint work. By the time I moved to FL the car had been in PHR with cover & feature, Hot Rod, and showed up on most of the Pontiac forums so I didn't get negative comments anymore. That's why I just got a normal FL plate. Now since I'm NOT A TA on all the forums I frequent, anyone new who sees a pic I post probably assumes my car didn't start as a TA from the factory because of the screen name.

Yea, Mike.....I have quite a bit of Harry Gant collectibles from the 80's and 90's.....Somewhere I have a really cool photo of Harry driving a Black Trans Am with Burt Reynolds and Hal Needham in the car with him. It was taken at Harry 's final race in 1994.

Sweet photo! When the Skoal Bandit retired, he left a big ol' hole in NASCAR.

As my signature explains, Fire AM for FIREbird AMerican by Herb Adams!
-
In the early '90s when I started getting on the Internet via America Online, my '81 Turbo Trans-am was my relatively new-to-me daily driver. I figured TATurbo would be a screen name I could remember easily every time I wanted to dial-up to America Online.

I played softball many moons ago. And in one of the games I was playing in I hit the ball to the outfield fence and took off like a rocket. As I was running the bases I heard someone from the dugout yell "Look at those wheels". I wasn't the fastest runner, and I don't have long legs........but they said for my short, heavy stature I could run like the wind. As long as the wind was at my back.
I had a brown 1978 Trans Am w/403 at the time. I have since sold that Trans Am and bought a 1978 Y88. So the user name still fits.
-
I was looking at your aviator and the whole thing did not make sense until I saw your username.

Mine is what people call me at work (flying callsign). I got it for being a big hairy copilot.
-
Good to see you back, Mike!
-
Thanks Mike! Work and kids have taken up a bunch of my time the past few years, but I'm hoping to get to spend some more quality time with the '78 (my baby) and old friends from TAC!
-
I have a 2002 Formula and I kinda thought about getting a personalized licensed plate saying what the car is, so I came up with 024mula.

The car belong to my wife's aunt. Her name was Pat. And she sold it to her daughters husband. I bought the TA from my wife's cousin husband (Her Aunt Pat's daughter). So I figured since Pat bought the car new in 79 and my name is also Patrick. I come up with Pat's TA
Her aunt did get to see the car through pictures after I restored it. But never got to drive it again before she past from cancer.
-
That's a good way to honor her.

My user name is a reference to the 1941 film The Maltese Falcon. In the film, the characters are trying to steal / recover a statuette called the Maltese Falcon which is jet black in colour but is reputed to be made of solid gold. The characters in the film often refer to the statuette as the "Black Bird". At the time I joined TAC in about 2002 - 2003 I had a black 2000 WS6 - a Black Bird.
My profile picture is an Australian Black Falcon.
My real name is Steve Robertson.

Mine is initials plus from my navy days. Years ago when I would come home on leave my brothers and friends would laugh at All of the initials that everything got . And, this is the shortened version ( I leave out all the initials they gave me that can’t be printed) ha ha

Wow. This thread is reborn, (and the band plays on). Hey Jack, gut your ears on?
