The flex fan is an aftermarket attempt to solve the problem with the fan clutches wearing out prematurely; however, my car never ran cooler with one, and the blades sounded like the propellers on an aircraft! I switched back to a fan clutch and a 7-bladed fan, and it works good...

The correct fitting doesn't need Teflon tape, perhaps the more you add, the more it can't seal.

Assume that's what they meant, the stock type with alloy blades, not the fibreglass or completely alloy type.

Just got a Powermaster 9510, and am wondering if I need to worry about shimming - the OEM style is currently using only one, and I'm not sure that one is even necessary as it always seems to engage fine; this 9510 weighs only about 25% as much as the stock starter!

Flex fans were not the original - I tried one for awhile, but didn't like the noise...I've had good luck with the stock fan clutch, but the car likes to run at 205...

Replaced the alternator, repaired the melted wires, constructed a new 24 gauge stainless steel wire with stripped insulation from a single stranded copper wire, and replaced the battery...it was a nightmare, but all is well now; one final thing is to finally ditch the OEM starter with a Powermaster 9510 that arrived today!
