Title: Metal Door Panel Clips
Post by: MO 1979 TA on July 15, 2022, 10:14:19 AM
Hi- Does anyone have a better source for the metal door panel clips for a 79 TA? May be best to order from a restoration vendor? Apparently the O'reilly ones look identical but are not correct and haven't been able to source them anywhere else except overpriced ebay. Or have you had luck with the Disco #9183PK? Thanks in advance!

The link doesn't work, did you mean this type, 6 per door trim? Just about every Firebird restoration shop has them, but also most auto shops would have their more general brands. Who knows how many are the same part/supplier and stock photos aren't always the same as what turns up, especially when they use several suppliers for a fairly universal part.

Ive never heard of the 'clips and fasteners'  but have bookmarked that one for future use!

I bought a kit from the local auto part store that had about 50 fasteners of different varieties. There were some in there that fit perfect. It wasnt expensive. The store I used was a mom n pop type store that caters more towards professionals as opposed to auto zone  type stores though. Maybe if you have something like that in your area, or just send off to FB central.

Yes, the metal 6 piece that clips on the panel and matches to the ball socket that sits in the door. O'reilly carries the Disco Part #:9183PK but one of the reviewers indicated it will not work on a 1980 camaro; like you said probably from all the same manufacturer. For the links you provided, what's weird and having trouble with is that the descriptions both say "1967-1974 Firebird" even though the titles both say "1967-1981" so just assumed they won't work. I will try FB central since they are the specialist- thanks!

Wow. I will have to bookmark this too. There is a lot of electrical connectors on that site too worth checking out. Thanks!

Not sure why they 'didn't work on a 1980 Camaro'. Don't they also use the nylon push plugs? Either way, I find that 50% of reviews show the buyer didn't know the part they wanted and got wrong one, or not sure how it was used. It's a very common part, the world over. No reason to buy from a Firebird specific vendor, usually cost more for same part as elsewhere, but also more chance they've test fit the item on the same car as yours, and so have all the customers along with feedback if good or bad. You don't get that at the general parts shops.
