Title: Red Heater Hose
Post by: roadking77 on February 07, 2024, 06:43:11 AM
I am at that point in my resto that I am ready to put the heater hoses in. One of the things I have done throughout the process is to look at low mile original cars for guidance. Fortunately there are plenty of original TATA's out there  I just saw one the other day that proclaimed to have less than 10k miles and completely original. It had red heater hoses. I have seen a lot of trans ams over the years, and a lot that are low mile originals. This is the first one I think that has red hoses. Any original owners here that can verify this?

Pretty sure they don't have red heater hose. Honestly thought that was more of a thing with way earlier cars.

As far as I've seen, original heater hose is supposed to be just plain black with not RAISED, but rather 5 INDENTED grooves running along the length; the top groove being further away from the other four. Ames sells it.

Thats exactly what I thought. That particular one is the first car I have seen with the red hoses.

I agree with the others, I have never seen red heater hoses from the factory on any GM car.

Kerry, forgive me if you have already addressed these items.

Since you are talking about heater hoses you might want to check the condition of this grommet, that goes over one of the heater core tubes. After 45 years they deteriorate. Mine was falling apart. With the inner fender out is a great time to replace it. I noticed the price has gone up, $30.00. AMES, FP359N.

These style hose clamps are like what was originally used by the factory. I think they provide a more even clamping force than the worm gear clamps. Only down side is they really can't be reused. Also from AMES, 2 each FP253 and FP254.

, that part was in my latest order to Ames, hope to have it by friday. I have the current catalogue that I use for reference and to order parts. But I go online to place the order. Seems like EVERYTHING I have ordered in the last 6 months is $4-$5 more than what is listed. Sign of the times.
