Hopefully without issues in the future! There aren't a lot of places to go for 2nd Gen T/As and Firebirds.
-
Thank Goodness,
I really missed TAC.
-
Are we using a bargain server?
-
can always go to fbook groups and get all the incorrect info

Hallelujah!!
Have been having nightmares without my fix!!

Or other Pontiac sites that stay running and provide correct info.
-
Yeah, what happened??
-
Glad it's back. Really hope the good folks stay around and don't jump ship. I really enjoy this place!
-
Luke, I agree with you 100%.
After two weeks I was getting concerned and had my doubts.
-
So how long was the repair? Was it a lightening strike? Some-one hit the "eject" button? Hope all is better, and more reliable.
-
Joe, maybe a month? I don't remember but checking regularly every few days... the only reason I checked today is because of your message, thank you.
-
i must say i am getting concerned
many of us made donations to try to ensure the reliability of TAC
if it happens again i will have to look for a new place to get my fix
-
I'm sure mrbandit has been busy, not a huge deal...
-
Good to see everyone

Good luck with that :D From the past few weeks searching around for similar content, there seriously is nowhere else to go.
mrbandit please let us know how we can help to stabilize the site.

16 days down. I haven't heard why it crashed- this is a new, modern server that is supposed to be the latest version.

Mike, I just noticed you are a Yeti sitting on the Jedi council, you are one bad dude! :)

So glad it's back!!! Don't post a lot but enjoy the banter. Glad to see everyone still here!
-
Just as well, if you had a lot to post, use another forum.
-
It's ALIVE!!!!! Again. Cool!
-
Woohoo! Hi errrybody!

This forum is like a carburetor. Runs fine but you need to get fuel to it from the mechanical fuel pump.

Sad reality is that "everyone" is not still here and many won't return as they are tempted to spend time elsewhere for several reasons.
The forum has been down a lot this year and occasional visitors just forget to come back after several failed attempts. Us hardcore regular users just keep trying to get on and because we get frustrated the frequency of trying diminishes as the days or weeks pass, some just move on to other forums or find other things to do.
A large percentage of the 2nd gens have been restored or rebuilt so less projects and less questions. And with the database of information gone there's less likelihood of us sending potential new members or reminding current members to come here using links to threads etc. I know I sent lots of people here with links to threads on aerodynamics, my build threads, sub frame thread, how to's, brake info, etc. and they're all gone now so I haven't sent anyone here in a long time.
As the use of the internet has evolved there's more and more things available for people to spend their time doing. "YouTube" wasn't even started yet when this form first got going. I'll admit I spend quite a few hours watching car racing now that I spent on forums years ago. Today people spend over a BILLION hours PER DAY watching youtube videos (according to wiki). Never mind the distractions of Facebook and all the other social media sites. So as the kids will tell you, forums are for old guys, aaaaand......
The owners of 2nd gens are aging out. If you were 30 YO when this forum started and bought a 25 YO car to build you'd be about to turn 50 and the car 45. You've moved on to other interests you're working on or researching info for even if you still have the car and finished the project.
Which brings to the forum owner who has also aged and currently has other things that hold a higher priority in his life than operating this forum. When he first built the forum he probably didn't realize the monster he was creating till it became a case of "Be careful what you wish for". While we can set aside a project car or just park a finished car for an extended period of time to build a new garage, move, deal with family issues, fix the house/yard, or whatever, the forum continues running (or not) every day and always wants some of his time. Perhaps it's time to sell it? There are companies that buy niche forums and then can sell advertising easier because of the volume of users they have when all the forums are bundled.

Just dont let Autoguide buy it, they'll destroy it like every other forum they buy. They're currently destroying Yellowbullet.

Thank goodness. I thought it was my computer. :D

This isn't a forum owned by a company that pays a service group to keep it running. This forum is Mike Barefoot doing it in his spare time because he's a hobbyist. Yes, the outage was terrible as was the crash. If everyone is upset, I get it. But that's the way it goes when you have one guy trying to do everything. Contributions are welcome but they can't buy a professional service to sustain a web site. So we get what we get. If this is too much then tell Mike and he can fold the site. I'm sure he has better things to do at this stage of his life. I love this place as much as anybody but after 20+ years of administering the Arkansas Pontiac Association web site nothing made me happier than the day the members said we should fold it and just do Facebook. Now it's someone else's problem.

I'm glad to see TAC is back online!
