Title: Power sunroof install
Post by: FormTA on January 23, 2024, 04:36:06 AM
This is not mine but a video I found on YouTube.

Not sure I condone this but interesting...

Nice work, not my thing but appreciate it anyway. Interesting that it has the new Year One 17" snowflakes of the 7" version, first I've seen outside of the website. Not sure I'd be too keen on them welding and grinding around them, old rims are dime a dozen for workshop use.

Kinda neat. But, we had one in my wifes old suv and I think I used it twice!
The way these cars flex I would be concerned with the joint all the way around the roof as well.

Definitely a professional job.  I did look into the a few years ago - they make pretty good kits also now so sourcing from a boneyard is not needed.

The video also points out what a hack job Hurst did on the OEM installs.   He alo plans on deleting the wind buffer - a mistake to me as they cut down a lot of noise.

Great video Luke, I enjoyed watching it and would be interested in seeing how he finishes the head liner. This guy definitely has skills, I would assume he will weld around the entire roof. It will be interesting to see the finished product. With the roof being at eye level and painted black any flaws will be hard to hide.

I don't understand why he omitted the wind deflector, unless he only plans on driving it with the rear glass tilted up.

All of our modern cars have power sun roofs. If you reach up and pull the deflector down the wind noise is crazy. I would never delete it if it were me either. I thought it was neat that the roofs had the same contour.

We had the power roof in our mercedes. The wind deflector got jammed and I had to remove it. Never used it open after that as it was way too noisy/annoying. Its still floating around the shop someplace.
