Title: 77 Trans Am Cold start vid
Post by: 72projectbird on January 17, 2023, 08:54:01 PM

Thought you guys might like this...

So I bought this car from Georgia. It's been there it's whole life, and probably has never seen snow. I had to move it out of the garage for the weekend and guess what? It snowed. lol

So I figured it be a good time to see how well I have the Q-Jet set up. I made a quick vid of the cold start just for fun. I filmed it vertically like a moron.

It fired right up though. I have the choke idle speed set lower than the 1800rpm spec. I dont think it needs to be spinning that fast imo, but who knows?

Looks like you have the carb and choke set up pretty well. Seeing the snow reminded me how bad these cars were to drive in the snow.

That is awesome! Looks like a really nice engine bay too! You always find great cars!

Ya, I daily drove my car through college. Quick story, I was on my way to school one day in a good snow storm.  I stopped at a light and when it turned green I let out the clutch (same car I have today but I had a stick in it back then) and the tires just spun and it wouldn't move. So like any rational teenager, I got out of the car with it still in gear and tires spinning to run to the back of the car and push it. As I was pushing I slipped and fell and the car chugged away with me running after it.... I did catch up and got in it in time to stop it before it hit something.... Ya, those were the days... It's amazing I never wrecked that car over the 27 years I've owned her.

lol it definitely took some tweaking to get it to start so easily.

Haha I'm glad that story had a happy ending! These cars certainly lived interesting lives. Everyone I meet ends up talking about old stories of their car, or a buddies car, and they usually never end well.

Looks like you have that dialed in very nicely! I usually had mine idle around 800rpm or so, just didn't see the point in a high idle for my situation.

Well it was cold as hell today, and had the car sitting outside the shop for 8 hours. Figured I'd make another vid.
