After reading "Door Mirror Gasket Thread" and comparing the different gaskets on the doors......I just realized that there isn't anything on the inside of the passenger door for the screws to go into. Just holes. Is there a bracket that goes inside the door that somehow attaches or?
The driver side door does have the piece inside for the screws. I'm going to try and see what it looks like inside the door for that area.

Yes, there is a bracket

Thank you.....that helps a lot. If for some reason it is not laying around inside the door then I'll make one.

You`re welcome

Good pic from door top.
You only had to wait a moment and I'd have posted the info and comparisons for the inner bracket as well!
These cars were designed with fixed LH mirror mount as part of the door and a separate bracket for the RH side for mirrors that were optional. Not sure of the wisdom of that but it remained the way until then end of 81 model.
Then you'd be able to identify that yellow ebay mirror as having coming off a Camaro and not a Firebird.

Guess what?
I am in the process of cleaning up the doors and getting them ready for body work. The passenger door was first and look what I found inside, lodged under the unlock/lock actuator.
Now I don't need to make one.
