Hooker Show Bar
« on: June 30, 2023, 05:46:58 AM »
What would you guys pay for a Hooker show bar in decent shape these days? Most of the ads I’m finding to gauge value are 5-10 years old.

I've seen them anywhere from about $700 to well over $1000. The condition of the chrome is everything.

I have one in my 71 I was lucky enough to get out of a junkyard with absolutely beautiful chrome. I have another from a parts car I had, but there's no chrome left on it.

The one I found for sale is on the upper end of that range. I’m sure shipping would be an absolute killer on it   :? It’d be cool to have but idk if it’s really worth it.

They definitely look awesome, but it's hard to justify the price of them now. I'd rather take that cash and put it into performance parts.

Who said Hooker Show Bar???

I spent years, literal years, trying to get hold of an original Hooker Show Bar to put back in my Fire Am. I got scammed out of one of them by this guy Cole who (was) a good friend, gotten so close to buying two others, made a deal on one but then the owner decided not to sell, and got offered some rough ones for around $1000 (and this was a few years ago too.)

I finally, finally got a hold of mine earlier this year after constantly being on top of this T/A parts guy, it took me over a year of messaging for him to get it out of his shed, box it up, ship it to my freight forwarder, and finally down to me in Australia. $250 USD, but poor thing was missing a leg. But man, when I finally had that pallet dropped off on my driveway, I could not open the box fast enough. Rusty, a bit pitted, but bruh, I was finally happy to just get my hands on one.

After a lot of scrubbing with #0000 steel wool, WD-40, some aluminium foil, and a little bit of Autosol metal polish:

Although it would've been nice to have both original legs (they do have part numbers on them) or a complete bar, I guess it could be considered a good thing as I always wanted to change the way they mount to the body of the car, as I always thought were they mounted and drilled into the wheel wells was a bit goofy and not well designed. Plus, Matt Adams reached out and advised he'd be happy to make some new legs that are closer to the VSE roll bar specifications. I'd be concerned to see if the chrome would match however, as it would be significantly costly to have the whole bar re-chromed here. I'd rather save a rough one than use a good one that could be reserved for another car that really needs it.

The only reason I’m even considering a bar is because I’m building a Fire Am. It’s definitely hard to justify the price when there are other things the car needs, but it’s the only stage 1 part I don’t have.

Lol you should see how much I have burnt trying to get a lot of the original VSE gear for my F/A, and don't worry, it still needs ALOT more. Have you got a VSE oil pan?

I haven’t been lucky enough to find an oil pan yet, but I’m not giving up. Have you found one? The only original VSE part I have is the rear seat bar. Everything else is recent production stuff from Matt.

Noap  :-(

I was hoping I would luck out and be able to poach one from you if you had one. Have been very desperately looking for years. Tom V on PY has one for sale in Canada but he wants over $1,000 which I think is very unreasonable. I'm not that desperate just yet.

I've had two sets and I was able to get $1k for each if my memory is correct.  One had the hooker badge and one did not.  These were like 10yrs ago, so a nice one, complete with very little pitting should fetch above $1k today.
