Shaker Hood on 2nd Generation TA's
« on: June 27, 2023, 07:45:34 PM »
I watch this guy Steve Magnante's YouTube videos and found this one.

I think there might be a few inaccuracies but it is still interesting. I am pretty sure the shaker was very similar 1970 -1976 with three rivets on the 1973 - 1976 holding a metal cover. I know for a fact my 1973 and 1975 TA's had a metal cover on the shaker held in by three rivets.

The only Trans Am's with functional flap operated by two electric solenoids were the 1970-1972. The functional flap was eliminated starting 1973 with a $27.00 credit on the window sticker to Delete Functional Ram Air. I read somewhere it was to reduce noise emissions when the shaker was open during WOT. Yet the 1974 GTO still had a functional Shaker. Admittedly it was powered by a 350 CI engine instead of a 400 or 455. Hard to believe a 350 would be that much quieter.

No idea the 74 GTO had a functional shaker. I am thinking out loud about the can ams, but they were 400's and set up like a trans am so I doubt they would have been functional.

Can Ams, they're not.

I found one of the GTO shakers in a junk car we had.  Listed it on ebay and somebody messaged me and told he what it was.  Evidently the actuator arrangement is obviously different from a 70-72 T/A.

Can-ams were 77s.  77 shakers were never functional from the factory.

Yea, I didnt think they were. Pontiac only show this Aug in PA, there is usually 4 or 5 of them there. I have always liked them, in the last 30 years I have seen one on the road and those at this gathering each august. Def a rare car now.
