What is the name of your car and why?
« on: June 11, 2023, 06:48:53 AM »
Was thinking about this this morning and I don't know if there's been a topic about this.

My car is: Old School
Because its ... well... old fashion, traditional muscle.

Depends, I always thought that naming cars was silly, until I realized around my house all of the cars have a nickname, LOL.

My black 77 trans am- I simply call it the 'hot rod', during the resto my wife called it 'the p.o.s. in the garage', now she just refers to it as -'the tin can of death'.

She calls her new mustang-'baby'

I call our expedition- 'the van'

My son is trying to come up with something for his new GTO, I started calling it 'the yellow 'roo', that will probably stick, at least by men.

Rich- what was your original vanity plate?  The one we used to tease you about years ago?  One Hot TA?  And we used to ask why you hated TA's because at first glance it kind of looked like 1 HT TA.  Something like that from a long time ago LOL

Rich, The entire time that I have been on this forum, I thought that your car was named Old School because of the movie! It has a red Trans Am in it that looks very similar to yours. Hopefully the link works.

It's got one of the best lines in movies when talking about cars. "Took the restrictor plate off the Red Dragon, to give her a little more juice. But keep that on the downlow, since it's not exactly street legal."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I9MDswUeYc

My car is called Madaguy because my 3 YO kept calling it that instead of Nomad. And he would say it with such conviction. "My dad just got a Madaguy!"

I never knew that movie existed, I'll have to watch it but, it does fit, my car was kinda of a POS like his when I first got it. hahaha

A few years back when he was 3 or 4 one of my Grandsons called it “Hotbird” instead of Firebird. That was tempting but hasn’t stuck yet. Maybe once it’s on the road it will get a name.

I don't name them. I usually just refer to them by their year, or an abbreviation of their actual names: Trans Am = TA Grand National  = GN etc. etc.

Thats funny Ryan, I have seen the movie and forgot about that part
Your Madaguy reminds me, when we got our Expedition, my grandson was just a tyke, the best he could come up with was 'Ex-Magician'. That has stuck as well.

We just call it Trams Am but our CJ7 is called Rusty because the guy I bought it from told me it had absolutely no rust which was far from the truth. My 77 F100 is called Booger because it was two tone green when I bought it. The 67 Bronco project is called Patches because I’m basically patching the body back together. Everything else is just called what they are, Maverick, Eagle, Nissan and XJ

1987 GTA - GTA (Couldn't think of anything else) or Dwight from the relatives

Obviously some musical influences on some of the names. Magic Carpet Ride is a great name and song!

I never named any of my cars, but we inherited a 90’s Mercury Marquee from my mother in law when she was no longer able to drive. It became my youngest daughter’s car while she was in college. We affectionately called it “Land Yacht”, Because it was big and handled more like a boat more than a car.

Winner winner Roadkill dinner, the colour pallet of the Fire Am matches the Rio album cover, plus she dances on the sand (well, it would if it was on the road lol). Maybe the GTA should be called the wolf, because it's hungry for 98 Unleaded.

Neither do I lol, I had one in the past for the Fire Am, but that's before the old threads were purged. Maybe a new one will start, I should've documented all the work I've been doing to it since.
El Choco has moved on, and Uncle Steve's Formula has basically sat waiting for me to put the original 400 back in it. GTA never really had much done, it's as it was from factory, except just some ignition overhauls.

Yikes, Wallinton!  I don't mind the small talk.

I've never been one to name my cars, but I do talk to them more than most normal people talk to their vehicles.  Anyway, I've noticed that, during our conversations, I tend to call my '81 TTA 'Buddy'.   My car definitely feels like an old friend...I'm sure that's where the nickname comes from.

Back in the day we spent a lot of time together just killin' time. In our youth, we were arrested together. And, it even took me on my first big road trip from 'Jersey to Nashville when I was a kid...

I just called my car "my TA" until one day a former co worker Scott asked me "how's Ol' Blue doing?" That's been it's name ever since. Sadly he lost his battle with cancer a few years later at the age of 46. I always remember him when I use the name. He was a good man.

My '77 SE was named Shelly, the '78 is named Tracy, the '99 was named Elise, the '04 Avalanche was named Ali, my '16 Civic is named Hondo. No particular reason for the names, just people I used to know and the cars' personalities seemed to match.
