Smokey and The Bandit Today
« on: May 15, 2023, 10:54:00 AM »
IF Smokey and the Bandit were made today, what car would they use? Mustang GT, Dodge Challenger, Camaro? or how about a wild card, Ford Raptor or a Subaru WRX?
What do you guys think?

As a hypothetical, the original was never made, this is the same script and acting just being done in the 21st century. I think in keeping with the original Bo should be driving something that a good ole boy would pick. Nothing exotic, including a vette.

In keeping with the outlaw attitude I would think the Ford Raptor or RamTRX.

In cars, I suppose a Demon 170 with over 1,000 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 1.6 seconds to keep ahead of Buford T Justice, or what ever the hottest Mustang is.

While a WRX would easily would out perform a 77 TA, I can’t see Bo or Burt behind the wheel.

Your “what if” statement makes me wonder why they haven’t done a remake of Smokey and the Bandit. Good wholesome entertainment, nobody gets hurt and would put a smile on most people’s faces.

Sometimes things are made right the first time and have no need to be redone. I often think that programmers should think this way too, their better ideas often times are not.

70,71,78- You missed my point completely. I said 'the original was never made'.
Purely a hypothetical IF the movie were made today, not a remake.

I agree completely, I dont particularly care for any movie remakes. Very few get it right.

Although not my favorite by any means- I'd have to go with a Challenger for the movie car

If you were really going to try to clear out the police it seems like these are all pretty good choices.  The Corvette makes the most sense for the money, but those challengers certainly have plenty of power.  The story should be taking place on the interstate, obviously.   Otherwise, you'd never make it.

There's a lot less speed enforcement these days.  If people didn't live through the 55 mph year, they kinda can't relate to that.

Unfortunately I remember the days of 55MPH National speed limit all to well. Drives from Chicago to Denver were so painfully slow. You might get away with bumping your speed up to 60, if you tried to push all the way up to 65 there were plenty of troopers eager to write you up.

On the local tollways in Northern Illinois there is no speed enforcement.

Uurghh.....I was about to say the same thing. It'd be up to date and politically correct with sickening messages about the environment in the way James Bond made quips and puns about women or how the villains are about to die. He'd be ambiguously gay, and steal power at night from the nasty polluting industries to charge his car. And he'd have a sidekick kitten to battle those who wronged mother earth. And in the car chases to catch the baddies, he'd always be stopping at pedestrian crossings to help a little old lady with a walking frame and her shopping. Probably called Gerald and Mr Snugglepuss. And it wouldn't be clear which was which.

Made today it would be a driverless tractor trailer, the sheriff’s son would be transitioning, and Burt’s sidekick would be another cowboy - and you know it too….

No sheriff either, the police were defunded btw…😜
They would be smuggling plastic straws to a woke fundraiser in California to ban fossil fuels.
Big Enos would be played by Nancy Pelosi,
The bandit would be Dylan Mulvaney
Paul Pelosi as the Snowman ( he would probably crash the truck though and Fred the dog would be played by a naked man with a hammer)
Kathy Griffin as Frog…..
Special cameo appearance by Prince Harry and Meghan Merkle….

Looks like John Schneider answered this question with a Smokey and the Bandit tribute he made a year or two ago called “Stand On It”. I found it on YouTube and made it maybe 10-15 minutes in before I had to shut it off…
