Help with starting 71 with W72
« on: December 30, 2022, 04:28:13 PM »
As some know rabbits like to live in my engine bay and eat all wires. Today was nice and I wanted to move the car to the garage... anyways I replaced all wires (for the third time) charged the battery, check fluids, etc. I made sure I'm getting fuel but also sprayed starter fluids, the car cranks over but it would not start. I checked the distributer and cleaned all contacts, I also checked that the coil is getting voltage. So what gives? Im guessing the coil is weak and not putting out enough juice for a strong spark, what do you all  think?

Sounds like you still have a points system, my guess would be the condenser.

Correct points, didn't check the capacitor, will do that now.

Reassembled and started cranking again but sadly nothing... until I looked over and I saw that I forgot to put the cap on.

Reassembled again but this time both my battery and jump pack was dead.

I should move this post to electrical...
Anyways after my son and I repaired all of the ignition issues we tried to start the car again. This time we managed to melt off the starter battery terminal. So after jacking the car and replacing the + cable from the battery to the starter we managed to melt off the power pack and completely kill the battery. The good news is that we managed to create smoke so technically it did fire. Will try again tomorrow after charging the battery.
