Smog pump and tube removal help needed
« on: November 28, 2022, 04:52:49 PM »
I tried a Google search and found only limited information. I want to remove the pump and tubes from the 350 on my 74 Esprit. The pump itself seems easy enough to remove and I can cap the tube opening with an NPT cap from what I saw on post.

But I want to remove the tubes completely and from what I read they insert into the heads and I have to cap the openings. What do I use? Help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm not terribly familiar with Pontiac smog heads with AIR, didn't they just use the hole which is normally capped with a freeze plug?

Turns out that is how it is. I joined the Pontiac Engine and Design facebook group and posted the same question and indeed each head has a hole (upper left of head on passenger side and upper right on driver side) where the air is injected in to and can be capped. Measured the hole with my caliper and it's .751 so I got a few 3/4" (.760) freeze plugs that I plan to insert.
