Title: Interior text stamps
Post by: b_hill_86 on December 04, 2023, 10:58:03 AM
Weird question for discussion. My wiper switch is the basic 2 speed kind with the white arrow and “ON” and my arrow is disappearing and I believe “ON” is already gone. I picked up a used switch today that has both intact but the arrow is starting to disappear a little too.

In addition my car has cruise and the word “CRUISE” is pretty much gone from the turn signal stalk   I think it’s supposed to have an arrow too. Anyway, it got me thinking as to how these were applied and I’m thinking and guessing there was a stamp or something similar used when these were made. Does that seem logical? If so I was debating on whether or not I could have a stamp of each made seeing as how the face of the wiper switch is metal. An old switch could easily be cleaned up, sprayed black again and stamped with the new text since these aren’t reproduced.

The cruise turn signal stalks are reproduced but at like $100 each which I think is crazy. One thing I wasn’t t sure of is what type of paint would be appropriate. Any thoughts? Dumb idea? You won’t hurt my feelings lol.

The most durable paint to use on a high touch surface would be epoxy based.

I was looking to see what guys were doing to paint the raised letters on the old ford tailgates and they all said they use "one shot" sign paint. Maybe that would work. It'd be worth a try.

Have never used it but, but there is a retired art teacher on another forum I peruse and he swears by one shot sign paint. Say's it flows out super smooth. Recomended for restoring license plates as well.
