Remind me, these came off a 400 Pontiac harness, likely the oil pressure sender wire retainers. Where do they bolt up? Anyone make them new? I did a search and came up empty, even used samples.

arent they the starter motor cable retainers?
-
possibly, just guessing, harness to keep away from exhaust. I don't have one.
-
I was thinking maybe transmission lines that bolt to the oil pan?
-
I can say I feel like I’ve seen them but can’t place them
-
Maybe?
-
Found some old saved pics of the harness which was sold to someone years ago for parts.
Appears to be over the oil pressure sender wire and another shared with what looks like the HEI. So perhaps someone can see better at that angle.
How am I meant to sell these if no one knows they need them?!

Maybe I need them and didn’t know I did lol. I know I don’t have these but my original engine is long gone so who knows who did what to my car back then.
-
Buy one, get one free.... haha
I didn't think they were anything special until I tried to find a pic, or reference to them.
Maybe they were only used on genuine Bandit film cars, due to the headers.....that's it, writing ad now....

Hens teeth!

I have a similar rubber-dipped metal harness retainer on my aircon case.
Possibly GM #496112, another obscure listing. Found similar in diagram form, one near engine mount for transmission lines, and another shows on bellhousing bolt below dipstick mounting tab.
-
Identified with some help and searching on the PY forum.
Indeed were bellhousing mounted retainers for Pontiac oil pressure sender/TCS/later HEI harness but part #478007.
Pics from a '71 455 LeMans resto.

Man, you always find the obscure part or info on these cars. I'm just happy mine is on the road. I'm missing my front air dam and wheel flares and you are looking for original wire clips. My car will never be concourse or 100% original. Half the stuff you search for I didn't even know existed and I thought I knew 79 cars.
Oh, and keep it up, I enjoy learning stuff I didn't even know I didn't know!
-
It's worse than that....this doesn't even suit my car, just wanted to check what it was off! Has no bearing on me whatsoever! Researching and identifying for others!
-
Ben, great job as always with documenting and pictures to back it up.
I couldn’t help but notice the plastic retainer for the transmission cooler lines off to the right connected to the frame, something I have never seen before.
-
The photos are pinched from a 10 year old post on a '71 LeMans with 455. I'm just copying and pasting for sake of conversation and learning new stuff, just to forget it again.
It'd be something similar to this, just a spacer that held the trans lines apart but also fixed.

Other diagrams and options show a larger version of the metal retainers I was asking about, contains 2 retainers on same section. Repro exists. Same bellhousing location and side of trans for TCS.

Wouldn't you know it, going through boxes of parts and found a second set I'd pinched and put aside. I never find parts i need to replace things I shouldn't have sold. I spend half my time searching and purchasing back items in far worse condition and far more expense than those I let go cheaply thinking they were spare and helping them out.
-
Going through some pics during the reassembly.......
First pic is my 4 speed to 400 showing where the clips are mounted.
And pics of the actual pieces.
-
Great pic, no I need to look for a pair! Also, good to see the oil sender wire, I have been trying to figure out what wire that is for a hook up on my motor.
-
Thanks to Walliington for his research.
Odd how one clip has a rubber type coating and the other doesn't.
-
I have a second set here too, will clean up and see what they look like. Don't appear to be as good condition.
On closer inspection of those first retainers, both are dipped, but as seen one is thick rubbery but the second is almost a paint dip. Perhaps a very, very thin rubber when it was done, ran off again.

Guh, predicament. If I can't find someone who needs these, I'm gonna have to get 2 more Pontiac-engined projects. That's really the only way I can see.

hahaha, like your way of thinking.
-
Found a pic in my tear down process that shows the oil sending wire with the clip.

I would love to have a couple, not sure if the shipping would be justified though!

PM your address, will get a set on the way.
