Title: Underside of hood dress up
Post by: Gold member on August 14, 2021, 06:37:29 PM
Any one using a quality underside of hood dress up kit . I am not intrested in those 40 dollar insulation pads. I am looking for but can't find a  solid one piece board with like the Trans Am logo on it or a bird.

I've never seen anything like that.

Interesting, did not know they made it for a second gen. but I guess they can apply a decal to anything.

My take on it is that yes it looks nice but my hood does not open enough for something like that to be visible.

They look nice, and certainly clean up the underside of the hood.

Not sure how you work around the under hood bracing though.  I installed DEI under hood boom mat.  You have to cut it up to fit each of the crevices between the bracing.  It’s got a bit of a carbon fiber look to it.

I would just do the insulation pad and be done with it.  Or use a red scouring pad and paint it chassis black under the hood.  Another option would be to get a sheet of plastic and cut it to fit whatever you're trying to cover.

That looks nice. My focus wouldn't be at the underside of the hood on your car LOL .

I had thought about buying a sheet of textured abs and cut and shape it (probably just heat and bend down the center).

Never followed through with it yet.

That would be the perfect material.  A used hood and a big oven. LOL

This might be as good as it gets . Looks like a fiber board on the show side and fiberglass mat on the other side . I am going to call them to confirm tomorrow . Shipping is free and its on sale right now . I see there is a few haters about this . IF YOUR NOT INTRESTED MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE  !.

That style has been available since the car itself. It's the same as the base model hood insulation minus the shaker cutout. Many sell it, probably all same brand from Taiwan. It's not a board, more of backing panel that supports the fiberglass and cotton wadding, which is on the engine side regardless of pics used. It still gets sent out folded up into a little bag. I had to spray mine with clear flat coat to seal it as it kept dropping fluff and dust everywhere and in the air, or flip over.
I thought you were after one with the logo thing.

A logo would be nice but anything with a more solid surface on the side you see . I remember seeing something that the Trans Am never came with hood insulation from the factory .

according to collectors auto supply theirs Shipps rolled in a tube from the manufacturer and are made to order and could take 30 days to ship. They will call me back with the details of the material used on the show side of the part . Will update .

Update . I think this is as good as it gets for the money . According to the supplier it is nothing like the ones we all see stuffed in a bag for $40 . The show side is fiberglass but sealed and colored black like you see on most cars . the best part is it comes lightly rolled and boxed so no creases ready to install . The bad part is they are made to order and there is a 35 day to ship on them.  $105.00 shipped i think its worth a try.

I have one from these guys on my Turbo T-tbird.  Those were originally embossed, so I really do need a logo on mine, but for $50 this is all you get.

I guess this is exactly what you don't want.  I didn't order a $100 one so i can't compare.  In fact I don't think collectors auto supply actually offers a T-bird one with the intercooler cut out.

That looks to be a good quality part are you happy with yours ? I know now i wont find one with any emblems now just looking for a quality product . How was this shipped rolled or folded ?

It was folded.  I am happy with it, but it could be stiffer if i was primarily interested in its appearance.  I thought I should really take a picture of it.

With the turbo i figured I ought to keep it in good shape because of the heat.
