Title: 80 firebird front springs
Post by: CrazyJo on February 08, 2021, 05:18:04 PM
I have A 80 firebird.  The front end is all apart.  planning to put it back together.  The car came with 3.8 v6.  I have A 350 sbc (iron heads aluminum intake) and 700r4 for it.  My question is what coil springs should i use?  I have the v6 springs and springs from A 79 403 olds car.  I am planning to make A fiberglass hood and inner finders for it so that will probably lighten the front of the car somewhat as well.  Maybe the fiberglass parts and aluminum intake will offset the extra weight of the v8.

The 403 is already a light engine, compared to many others. They should be fine at this point.

Thanks for the input.  I wandered how heavy the 403 was. I haven't had much luck finding A weight for them.

with that many changes regardless of what spring you use you will have to cut them to get desired height. Any of the factory springs are going to "soft" ... but depends on what your purpose is? For spirited driving something in the 450 lb range should be good with your weight diet. Stock steel cars look nor to the 500 lb for descent cruising and 600 lb for "slot car action"
