Title: Mounting Aftermarket Gauges
Post by: MNBob on April 04, 2021, 11:54:03 AM
Can I just mount aftermarket gauges in the brushed aluminum panel on the dash?  Or do I need some kind of backing plate or inner mount
structure?

Is there anyone here that has replaced their gauges?

I made a new face plate which is thicker, ~1\8” but I think the stock would be ok too.

I mounted my aftermarket gauges the same way the factory did it, which is fastened to the dash frame behind the face plate. I used VDO gauges which have a shallow flat bezel which hides behind the factory bezels that are mounted on the face plate.

This way I didn't have to deal with wires hanging off the faceplate. Probably wouldn't work with gauges that have a thicker bezel though.

JJ 109, your face plate looks great and you have an integrated push button start to boot!  I am going to install the proximity locks and PB start this summer.

Gene, I agree that is the best way to do it with the wiring/gauges independent.  It is hard to see and your gauges look look like they were made that way.  I am going to see if I can do that with the Autometer gauges.

Thanks for the info, guys.
