Title: Turn signal stalk mounting
Post by: FormTA on May 16, 2023, 02:49:39 PM
So, my turn signal stalk fell out a last year.  I put it back in and it is really loose. I must have even JB welded it back when I was a kid.

For now I drilled the cast piece with a 1/4 bit about a 1/4 deeper and slathered JB weld again on the stalk and jammed it in there. Hopefully this holds it for a while.

My question is ( I could probably google it but thought a post about it may help me and others) what does a not cruise control turn stalk slide into and what is supposed to hold it in? My turn stalk is just a 1/4" smooth rod with a black handle on one end. I have a tilt column, it's a 79 where the brights switch is also the turn switch.  Not on the floor like my 79 Camaro was.

So, the column in my 77 is actually a 79 but I have cruise so I can’t help you there. Did find this though ….

I may be getting another 79 column and I can check the lever to see if it’s cruise or not if you want. Don’t know exactly when I’m going to get it though.

Surprised the Camaro didn't change at the same time, although I know little of their details. Figured it'd be a all-in GM production line feature. Anyway, I can't help unless you need diagrams, or any manuals you didn't have.

Ya, I have nothing but, I think the attachment point inside the column is the same weather you have cruise or not. If no one knows I'll go through the columns I have in my shop attic,  there are a few GM ones up there but mostly 80s el camino. If I get desperate I can go out to my barn where my 79 formula lays.

Thanks for the replies.

Took a bit but I finally got ahold of that other column. I took it apart tonight and (turns out I didn’t need to) the stalk just pushes in and is held by a spring loaded pin. Hard to see it in my picture but you can kinda see it inside.

Curious if the end of your stalk broke off beyond the groove or if the pin failed for some reason.

Thanks Brian. I think it did break off. I drilled it mostly out and then put tome JB weld on it when I stuck it back in. It's been good for a while now.
