Heater hose question 78 trans am 403
« on: July 13, 2023, 04:58:08 PM »
Soon to be removing passenger side inner fender to get to body mount bushings that nut spins.  Considering replacing the heater hose that’s behind the inner fender while it’s off cause I know of two cars that these hoses developed leaks and soaked passenger floorboard carpet with antifreeze. QUESTION.  Will this hose be a molded hose or it it basic buy by the length from parts house.  Never has been replaced to my knowledge. Thank you

Not sure which you are referring to but none are moulded for heater hoses on a 403. The heater core would be the main issue there for interior leaks, the hoses don't even leave the engine bay.

In my 79, the heater core caused an interior coolant leak.  There was a crack in one of the pipes of the heater core.  The root cause was that it had been installed at the factory with the cracked pipe jammed up against the hole in the firewall as it exited.  Over time vibration weakened the pipe and caused it to crack.

Be careful. One inside diameter pipe is 3/4" the other is 5/8". They are cut to fit from stock hose. Get the black color if you can, red just looks bad.
