1980 Trans Am Door Bushings
« on: March 31, 2022, 11:17:44 AM »
Hey guys, i ordered these door bushings for my 1980 and they don't seam to fit.
Does anyone know the right code for the bushings from DORMAN?
I know that i can order the kits from placed like classic industries but i am in Canada and shipping \ duty \ money exchange is expensive.
I would like to get these from Amazon since i get free shipping and return and pay in Canadien $'s
Let me know
Thanks

PS.  I would be willing to go with another company as long as i can get them via Amazon.

What part does not fit? If the inside diameter is good with the pin and the outside diameter is too big, they may be correct. The should be a bit oversized to allow drilling out the hinge where it typically wears out and causes the pin to be loose and sloppy. Drilling oversize and pressing the new bushing into place.

As above, they are not meant to fit as they assume your hinges are already wallowed out and worn oversize, so you redrill oversize to match the new bushes. Otherwise you buy original size bushes for a swap over and hope for the best but then often end up with new bushes in a still worn hinge and wears them out sooner than what you already had. They often supply a few bush options anyway, standard and oversized, but you also need to confirm that the pin isn't worn or it's pointless. Most kits come with both, complete.

Also, one of the best purchases you can make is to get one of the GM door spring compressors. It makes the job so easy, no clamps or vice or guessing when the spring will fly out and smash a window or scratch paint.
