Cutting Firebird front fenders for air extractors.
« on: May 25, 2023, 03:35:14 PM »
I located an excellent set of basic firebird 2nd gen front fenders. I need trans am fenders with the Opening for air extractors. Has anyone cut and fabricated openings for the extractors into a basic firebird fender?  If so, can you share the fabrication process you utilized? Thanks!

It can be done but it would be tough.  It would be easier to weld in a cut out from a donor fender. Or, sell those as they are harder to find than trans am ones (at least in my area). I personally would buy them for my Formula just to have an extra pair.

79 Trans am low buck LS swapped
79 Formula 301 (Work in progress)
67 RS Camaro (waiting it's turn)
69 Dodge charger on late model charger chassis
49 Ford F1 on a 2003 Chevy ZR2 Chassis (current project)
Names, Luke. If I hear anyone telling me they're my father....

Thanks for the response. I think you’re correct. Best to section in that part of the fender than to attempt to fabricate the opening. Thanks

Agree. With decent welding skills you can section them with no problem. If you found a really nice set of firebird fenders I would do that if you cant find the T/A stuff. I havent looked for awhile but I think we are starting to get to that point of decent original parts getting scarce. I gave up looking for a good hood. Everyone I talked to said "cant find anything, get a repro'.
