Rear bumper brace question
« on: July 27, 2022, 05:26:02 PM »
Hi - when taking my rear bumper cover off today I noticed that one of my 2 rear bumper braces has rust damage.  I’ve searched all over but can’t seem to find anyone selling replacements for it new or used.  Am I describing this part wrong?  Let me know if anyone has an extra one in good shape.

This is the horizontal piece that goes above and below the rear bumper cover.

Not available other than used. Suit 76-77 until they changed the bumper cover to harder material. Also good for slight ripples and waves in 45 year old bumper covers of the other material. #499735

Thanks - will see if I can repair the holes then…

Instead of the rivets I drilled and tapped the bumpers, and used oversized cup-head stainless bolts with a head that acts like a washer. Straightens out bumper nicely and adjustable.

I found a used one that was pretty decent. I used oversized rivets and a flat washer to install, I think. Its been awhile. If you arent worried about authenticity you can make something up out of a piece of aluminum flat strapping. If you really want to get fancy you could weld in the angles.
