Title: Timing cover
Post by: blackta79 on April 09, 2021, 12:55:31 PM
I've got a 78 400 P that needs the timing cover replaced. Can I do this without removing the intake manifold?

If memory serves me correctly, yes you can. When you replace it though, it may be necessary to loosen the intake bolts, tighten the bolt that pulls the intake against the timing cover then retorque the intake. Last time I had my timing cover off I had the intake off too so I’m not positive about that.

Black TA,

As Brian said the timing cover can be removed and replaced without pulling the intake manifold. You should not have to loosen the intake manifold bolts. I would replace the rubber donut at the front of the intake manifold that mates with the back of the timing gear cover. Unless it’s relatively new.

That's what I was hoping. Thanks
