Title: New fan clutch
Post by: sreta on August 17, 2023, 10:13:32 AM
Hi guys ! I'm about to order new fan clutch for my olds 403.I've already bought Cold Case radiator and I don't know how thick it is compared to stock radiator. I'm asking this because Hayden 2747 fan clutch suppose to work with stock radiator, but they also have low profile version for thicker radiators. So, I don't know which one to buy.
Thanks in advance !

I don't know if I can answer your question.

I snapped a picture of my car, 1980 TA, originally with a NA 301, now a Pontiac 400 and Cold Case radiator. Using the original 301 clutch and fan, there is a good 2 1/2 inches between the front of the clutch and radiator. Something worth mentioning, my original radiator was just a thin two core. The Cold case is also just two cores, but they are oval shaped and tanks are thicker/deeper. The factory rubber insulators used to mount the radiator were two small, I had to purchase the correct ones from Cold Case. I needed two sets, one for the top and another for the bottom. Also Pontiac engines used a different fan shroud. The Pontiac and Olds shrouds physically look different, so I am not sure if the fan shroud could cause any issues. My gut feeling is the stock clutch will fit.

I have a larger 4-core in my 403, I also have the older Hayden #2747 HD clutch fan. Plenty of clearance. The newer #2947 is apparently 2.7" tall.
