I just moved my childhood daily driver up to my home to be re-restored after 25 years of sitting in my parents driveway. I finally have a little more money than when I went off to engineering school, I have one kid in college and one two years away, and my 1981 Trans am is sitting in my garage.
I’ve spent a considerable amount of time on Facebook groups and watching YouTube and although they have been helpful, I’ve learned more about my car in 3 days lurking here. Pretty excited about finally getting her back up and on the road looking good. Some background. My dad and I restored the black trans am in the early 90’s. It used to be black and we changed it to maroon. Back in that day it was hard for us (before internet) to find the decal sets like you do today. It’s time to get her back to black with the gold eagle. I think mine was a SE with the smooth wheels but when we bought it in 1984 it had the snowflakes. Although the purists would say that the original wheels should be on there, I fell in love with the car with the snowflakes.
Just to tell you how much this car has been in my blood: my 5 year old birthday party featured a black trans am piñata.
Looking forward to being part of the group.
