This info was also found on the bottom of the 1978 PPG paint chip sheet, where it says (for the sake of completeness)

Blue 2815
Gray 2954
Gold 82352

They did not include this on the 77 chips.
I will try to find out some more about the 79-81 info such as it's known.  The color on the build sheet is always 55, but if there's any other documentation I will post here.

Here's a broader spectrum of manufacturers for the "original" paint code 55

And to make it clearer, the code 55 is also the gold used on Snowflakes of SE and non-SE models, along with the grilles and wheels of the code 50 Solar Gold Y88. Also, the 77-78 W50 white or black models with gold grilles, lower stripe, scoops and brake lights used 55.

This is not an end-all and be-all answer for the later years, but I did want to add that the part numbers for gold snowflakes in 1977 and 1979 are the same, 10010054. So that answers the question indirectly of what color these wheels should be in 1979.

FWIW I've never seen any indication the color was ever changed, just based on looks, but I also don't have any documentation on the 1980-81 cars except that the build sheets continued referring to gold wheels color as 55, but obviously that build sheet is not used for opening cans of paint for the wheel.
