The Next Generation
« on: January 03, 2022, 02:01:29 AM »
April of 2020 was the last time I did any meaningful work on my TA. I've had many opportunities since then, not to mention all of the new parts I have purchased for it, but somehow I keep finding other things to do. July of this year will make 30 years ago I purchased it from the original owner...I was just a kid right out of high school. I drive it as much as possible and enjoy every minute of it. I look at it and keep telling myself that I have to finish it, there really isn't that much left. I have no intentions of selling it but I often lack the motivation to finish the project I started nearly 30 years ago.
My sister, brother and their families came down to spend the holidays with my parents. It has been nearly ten years since the last time we were all together. My sister's boy, Alex, is 16 years old and has always liked old school muscle. Second gen firebirds to be exact. He's had toy cars all his life but somehow the Firebirds were his favorite. About three years ago, he began calling me and asking me questions about my Trans Am. Specific and detailed questions...I could tell he has been reading about them. He's a great kid. He's an A student that has aspirations of a career in Automotive Design but he is also a pretty good musician that plays Saxophone in the Concert band and Guitar in the Jazz Band. I told him and my sister that I would give him my Trans Am in due time. I let him know that there would be conditions that had to be met: 1) He finishes college 2) Has a garage to store it in 3) The TA cannot be his primary source of transportation 4) I have to be dead or ready to release my dream car.

I wanted to work on the interior of the car, since I only have had the driver's seat in it for the last 11 years. He asked me if I would wait for him to come to town and help me work on the car. I gladly accepted. My sister told me he would not shut up about it!
Anyway fellas, lots of preamble to let you know that my nephew and I worked on my (and his future) Trans Am.

Thanks for sharing this great story. I can only imagine how excited your nephew must be right now. Most of us have fond memories about being extremely excited about a car. This may also be the spark you need to complete your TA.

Thats a great story and a deserving kid. More importantly a good uncle willing to give up his car.

Def. a good story. You both are lucky people. My older brother has an impressive collection of antique motorcycles. He has no children and said a few years ago that my son will be the caretaker some day.
