Title: 74 Esprit 350 2bbl Fuel Pump Question
Post by: L8KRFAN on October 29, 2022, 12:07:41 PM
Still trying to get my derelict and very much butchered 74 Esprit running.

Should the 350 2bbl have the long or short fuel pump? Right now the car has a long 3-port pump with pump-to-carb connection facing to the side. The one I got is the short version with connecter port to the carb facing to the bottom.

Currently, the rubber fuel and return lines from the tank run just behind the lower crank pulley right in front of the oil pan but if I put in the short pump I can't figure out how the rubber lines will connect as the block/oil pan will be is in the way.

If someone can post a pic or routing diagram, I would be eternally grateful!  :)

On the bright side, since today was bust mechanically, I decided to check for matching numbers and I was pleasantly surprised the block matches the dash vin! yay!

Went to the Carter website. I have fuel pump M6404 which is the short version. M6405 is the long version with virtually same specs so going with the long version and keep all the fuel lines where they are.

M6404 GPH=45 Fuel pressure 6.5 to 8 Vapor diverter=Yes Canister size=small
M6405 GPH=40 Fuel pressure 6.5 to 8 Vapor diverter=Yes Canister size=large

The car is well under 200 hp so GPH of 40 is more than enough for this ferocious beast.
