Makes sense, worn hinges and previous alignment issues means an off centre striker pin will lift a door into place when it closes.

Absolutely. Half the guys going around posting online about avoiding that block then source the other block and build their 250hp monster.

It is crazy how that one day really changed the look of it! The is a sound deadener backing pad that is under the carpet but by the time we pull our old nasty carpet it has become one. Classic industries and others offer it separately but what you and others have done is the best way.

I think it's actually just sag. That is why you need to align it without the striker. These are just heavy doors.

Yeah, ya know I thought there was supposed to be some sort of soft material between the sound deadener and the carpet.  I guess not??

OTOH, the more I work on this car, the more I realize that there's really not much to it.  Like, a few interior panels, then the body work nightmare, and it'll be about done at that point.

Are you saying the door drops 1/4” when opened?

The interior really pops with fresh carpet. I thought about installing floor insulation like that, obviously you picked the right time to do it.

I think the 557 block has a much worse reputation than it deserves. Buttler Performance uses the 557 block in builds up to 450 or 500 HP, I don’t remember which. Obviously there a lot of variables that come into play when building an engine other than just the block. Probably just as important to have it done by a competent shop.
